The Senior Building Automation Technician is responsible for leading the installation, programming, commissioning, and service of Building Automation Systems (BAS) on plan and specification projects, small projects, and service engagements. This role requires hands-on technical expertise, strong project coordination skills, and a working knowledge of Yale Mechanical's building automation offerings including Alerton, Reliable Controls, Johnson FX, Tridium/Niagara Solutions, and Prolon LCBS solutions. The Senior Technician will serve as a technical mentor to junior staff and act as a customer-facing representative, ensuring high-quality project delivery, customer satisfaction, and compliance with specifications and standards. Specifically, these are the key responsibilities:
Project Execution
Provide installation expertise, program, and commission BAS on plan and spec projects and small to mid-sized projects.
Interpret engineering drawings, project plans, and specifications to deliver accurate system installations.
Coordinate with project managers, subcontractors, and other trades to ensure smooth installation and integration.
Validate system performance through testing, balancing, point-to-point verification, and functional commissioning.
Service & Support
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair BAS hardware and software issues across multiple manufacturer platforms.
Provide technical support, preventative maintenance, and system optimization services to existing customers.
Identify opportunities for upgrades and system enhancements within existing BAS infrastructure.
Technical Expertise
Program, configure, and troubleshoot control systems, graphics, and databases for Alerton, Reliable Controls, Johnson FX, Tridium/Niagara, and Prolon LCBS systems.
Integrate BAS with HVAC equipment, network devices, and other building systems.
Maintain high technical standards, staying current with emerging platform features, tools, and best practices.
Leadership & Communication
Mentor junior technicians, providing training and technical support.
Communicate with customers and internal stakeholders clearly and professionally.
Maintain accurate documentation, including as-builts, programming records, service reports, and commissioning logs.
Requirements
Education & Experience
5+ years of experience installing, programming, and servicing BAS systems; plan & spec project experience required.
Strong working knowledge of Alerton, Reliable Controls, Johnson FX, Tridium/Niagara, and Prolon LCBS platforms.
Experience with HVAC mechanical equipment and systems, networking, BACnet, Modbus, and related protocols.
Trade or technical degree in HVAC, controls, electrical, or related field preferred.
Valid driver's license required and able to pass a background check

Reports to: O&M Director
The O & M Vegetation and Snow Control Technician will be responsible for site maintenance of vegetation and snow removal, communicating service schedules with customers, and performing field service including mowing, herbicide application, use of power trimmers, removal of debris, and snow removal. The ideal candidate should have a safety-first mindset, strong mechanical aptitude, ability to operate machinery, communication and organizational skills necessary to achieve work order completion. This role must be capable of working independently or in a team environment. This is a full time traveling position.
Essential Functions:
1. The belief that all work can be completed with ZERO injuries and the safety of all employees and site personnel is top priority.
2. Perform vegetation control and snow removal when required according to work order system or as directed by management.
3. Ensure that contracted maintenance schedules are adhered to.
4. Work with other members of the maintenance team, sub-contractors and other groups to continuously improve process, maintenance performance, site quality and maintenance cost improvement.
5. Create service reports and maintain spare parts inventory.
6. Complete minor equipment repairs and routine maintenance.
7. Identify safety hazards and take appropriate action to remove or eliminate hazards.
8. Maintain a culture of continuous improvement and problem solving.
9. Be available for weekend shifts as needed.

Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to frequently inspect the project and may be exposed to ongoing construction and various weather conditions. This position is performed primarily in outside weather conditions.

The Automation Technician will provide technical expertise to the organization within the role by repairing and troubleshooting production automation and secondary equipment related to injection molding. RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITIES:
The primary role can include any combination of the following, but are certainly not limited to:
Repairing and troubleshooting production automation and secondary equipment, including lugging machines and lugging operations.
Diagnosing causes and implement long-term corrective action, make necessary repairs, verify effectiveness and necessary data collection.
Perform set-ups and changeovers of automated equipment in production as required.
Perform safety checks of automated equipment.
Assist in training other automation technicians
This role will include some or all the following:
Performing intermediate electrical wiring.

Studying part prints in relation to molding, automation, or second operations.
Developing and implementing company training on general automation skills.
Maintaining clean shop and spare components areas.
Applying company guiding principles while carrying out job duties.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR DESIGNATION REQUIREMENTS:
A two-year degree in Automation/Robotics, or a combination of automation experience/training.
MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Must have held a position in an automation or production field for at least 3 years.
MINIMUM TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
Mechanical work experience, preferably in the assembly and disassembly of mechanical mechanisms.

Job Procedures and Requirements:
Reporting to the Technical Manager, the incumbent is highly experienced in industrial programming, instrumentation, and electrical trades. They must continually elicit a high standard of safety performance for themselves. The PLC Technician 3 must be proficient in all aspects of the mill control systems and instrumentation.
The incumbent is responsible for assisting with the development and maintenance for the control systems in the mill, powerhouse, and waste treatment. They must possess a high degree of technical aptitude and in-depth knowledge of manufacturing process controls and instrumentation systems. The incumbent must stay abreast of new technologies and work with the engineering group with planning and implementing new capital projects within their area of expertise.
They must demonstrate a solid understanding of mill processes and how the control systems impact the process. They must be able to access all control systems, troubleshoot, and make programming changes without any oversight. The incumbent is capable of taking high level concepts from their customers and implementing those within their respective area.
They must also be fully proficient and display and advanced level in troubleshooting equipment malfunctions, preventive maintenance work, and routine equipment repairs and overhauls with no oversight.
The incumbent will be a key stakeholder on teams for implementing repair and upgrade projects within their respective department. This includes planning, part specification, coordination, supervision, and successful implementation utilizing both in house and 3rd contractor resources.
Qualifications:
* Licensed Electrician in the State of Michigan preferred.
* 3-5+ Years Industrial Controls and Instrumentation/Electrical Experience.
* USG Safety Model Program, OSHA, FM Global and Environmental compliance experience preferred.
* USG RPM program experience preferred.
