The Student Conservation Association, in partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), is seeking high school-aged students to join the Pennsylvania Outdoor Corps. The Pennsylvania Outdoor Corps offers paid work experience, hands-on skill development, and educational opportunities. Crew members will join a team of peers to complete conservation and infrastructure projects on Pennsylvania's public lands over the course of the season. Members will also participate in education and training activities related to resource management, environmental education, and recreation.
Position Details
Location: Pittsburgh, PA
Program Dates: Monday, June 29 - Friday, August 7, 2026
Weekly Schedule: Monday - Friday; 7:30 am - 3:30 pm
Compensation
$17.31/hr (pre-tax) paid biweekly.
*All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
Hours-37.5 hr/week
*In the event of inclement or dangerous weather, the crew may be called off for an unpaid day to ensure the safety of all participants until the threat passes

Working Conditions

Exposure to natural and environmental hazards such as poison ivy, oak, or sumac, tick and mosquito-borne illness, snakes, and potential for other wildlife encounters.
*Crews meet daily at a centralized location and travel together in an SCA vehicle to the worksite daily. This is a field-based position, and efforts will be made to accommodate safe and indoor work during short periods of inclement weather. However, crew members may be called off during periods of extreme weather, and therefore, 37.5 hours per week is not guaranteed.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
The Value Added Service Laborer is responsible for scraping, sweeping, and mopping the floors of food, beverage, and meat processing plants operated by our customers, ensuring they meet the quality control and bacterial standards set by the customer and relevant governmental agencies. Job duties include:
* Attend safety meetings at the beginning of the shift.
* Put on safety gear prior to beginning duties.
* Contact supervisor to inspect safety gear.
* Obtain assignments from supervisor of what area to clean.
* Retrieve cleaning supplies and cart from storage room.
* Squeegee up meat scraps and scoop them into barrels.
* Weigh barrels and dump them into the inedible vat or auger.
* Mix cleaning solution into bucket/hosing equipment.
* Mop office and Welfare Areas floors.
* Connect hoses to water source and turn on water.
* Spray equipment, floors, and pen areas of debris.
* Scrub equipment to remove debris with a green pad and cleaning solution.
* Spray equipment for a final rinse.
* Ensure area, including the ceiling, is dry prior to production.
* Inspect area to ensure it is clean.
* Other job duties as assigned.
YOUR MUST HAVES:
* Must be 18 years of age or older.

Control and direct the food preparation process while collaborating with front-of-house staff to ensure excellent service.
Deliver a consistently high level of customer service to each guest.
Required Qualifications:
At least 1 year of experience as a line cook or in a kitchen environment preferred but not required.
Ability to work independently and with a kitchen team, dividing responsibilities and monitoring staff.
Credentials in health and safety training.
Certification that meets local requirements.
Must be flexible with hours.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs during normal operations.

Pay: $19-$21/hr
