The general manager assures policies in the following manner: Maintains a working knowledge of and ensures the program management adheres to the Medicare Conditions of Participation. Supervising the compliance of all administrative functions and policies with applicable regulatory agencies - i.e., keeping personnel records up-to-date for Medicare surveys. Maintaining a working knowledge of all applicable federal and state regulations, statutes and VITAS policies and procedures, including staying up to date on the changing healthcare environment and its impact on the hospice business. Coordinating with the appropriate corporate staff, medical director, PCA and/or team manager and admissions manager all activity necessary to assure readiness in the hospice for an on-site survey by applicable regulatory agencies. Coordinating with VPO, Regional Medical Director, NPCA, and RDMD and other corporate resources when necessary for guidance and support. Developing and Expanding Revenue Performance Possesses and maintains sharp negotiating skills when pursuing contractual agreements with community partners and vendors to ensure favorable program outcomes. Based on the corporate business plan and revenue budgets, the general manager develops and maintains key relationships with hospitals, nursing homes, physicians and other healthcare organizations. The general manager manages the implementation phase of contracts to assure that discharge planning and case review functions are understood and agreed to by contracting institutions and implemented with positive results to the hospice, according to applicable state and federal law. The general manager establishes collegial, on-going relationships with the Executive Management of contracting entities, including those who have line authority over discharge planning personnel to promote the smooth and efficient functioning of such contracts. The general manager has specific responsibility for hospice financial functions including management of monthly profit and loss statements, accounts receivables, collections and local accounts payable processes. Based on a plan developed with the director of market development and program senior leadership team, the general manager develops and maintains relationships with physicians. The general manager initiates new relationships by educating physicians about the potential hospice need in their practices. The general manager improves the value of existing relationships by ongoing contact with selected physicians and their office staff - including the resolution of complaints, the providing of educational services and seeking to improve and refine patient care services. The general manager supervises the admissions function through the admissions manager. The Chaplain is a member of the interdisciplinary team and reports to the Hospice Branch Director. Providing direct spiritual support and/or counsel to patients/families in keeping with patients/families' beliefs. Working with staff, clergy and community groups to enhance their sensitivity to the spiritual needs of patients/families and reporting on services as indicated. Providing consultation and education for patients/families and interdisciplinary team members. Providing bereavement follow-up services as defined by Hospice. Maintaining proper records of visits to patients/families. Performing occasional liturgical assignments such as the annual Service of Remembrance and monthly memorial service when indicated. Qualifications Education and Experience (ESSENTIAL): Must be an individual who, by ordination or by ecclesiastical endorsement from the individual's denomination, has been approved to function in a pastoral capacity. Must have demonstrated experience in working with patients and families dealing with life-threatening illness and death. Education and Experience (DESIRED): Training in clinical pastoral education, meeting the requirements for the college of chaplains, may be considered in lieu of ordination or endorsement. Qualifications: Must be able to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing. Must have exceptional customer service skills and be able to communicate well with a diverse group of stakeholders. Must be organized and able to perform multiple, critical tasks simultaneously and frequently. Must have an understanding of issues related to delivery of home care services. Must have demonstrated ability to be open, sensitive, flexible, and ecumenical. Must be able to function efficiently and in a positive manner within a high stress environment.
