A successful Industrial Buyer will be personable and capable of soliciting, developing and growing relationships with our suppliers. The Buyer will also possess analytical skills to make decisions that are good for the company and our suppliers. The Buyer should have negotiating skills that combine the characteristics of a good relationship. This will ensure a professional and well-developed strategy, a sense of fairness and a good understanding of our needs.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties of the Role:
Assists in maintaining current industrial supplier relationships and pursues new business by visiting and calling manufacturers, fabricators, and industrial operations.
Maintains up-to-date business contacts and favorable relations with current customers (scrap dealers, peddlers, and other suppliers) by regularly keeping in contact to assure meeting plant requirements for ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal.
Builds and maintains long-term partnerships with suppliers to ensure consistent aluminum scrap flow.
Travels to current and prospective suppliers at their facilities. Performs inspection of materials to ensure quality.
Attends viewings of ferrous and non-ferrous metal bids and auctions.
Stays up to date on information pertaining to buying/selling prices and trends in local and regional markets.
Promotes our company's purchasing capabilities, logistics support, and competitive pricing to prospective sellers.
Partners with internal team economical transportation of materials to the plant, ensures efficient handling of materials (maintains strong communication and working relationship with transportation department and operations).
Partners with the Operations Department concerning accurate grading based on quality of scrap metal delivered to the plant.
Communicates with scale operations to accurately input purchases across the scale.
Enters and updates internal software system, ensuring that supplier information and purchase contracts are entered into the system in a timely and accurate manner.
Provides customer service by efficiently and economically resolving quality claims and/or other discrepancies between MX Holdings and the suppliers.
Attends industry events to keep up with current market trends. Creates a cadence for contacting customers to maintain and develop those relationships.
Industrial Buyers may be assigned to special projects or may be required to perform other duties not listed above, which may vary from time to time as determined by management, to meet company needs.
