Culver-Stockton College company history timeline

1853

Transforming the Academic Experience Since 1853 The Wildcat community extends around the globe-united by more than 160 years of tradition, built on excellence in education.

1855

Doctor James Shannon became the first president, and classes began in 1855.

1856

Shannon served as president of State College of Louisiana, Bacon College in Kentucky, and the University of Missouri before coming to Christian University in August 1856.

1866

Alice Staples was the first female student to enroll in spring 1866.

1870

She became the first female graduate in October 1870, and she was listed as the class salutatorian in the school's Union Literary Magazine.

1914

The college's Board of Trustees voted in 1914 to changed its name to reflect the generosity of two donors, Mary Culver and Robert Stockton, both of St Louis.

1970

Work began in 1970 on a student center to be named after donor Gladys Crown.

2008

The school adopted its current 12-week + 3-week academic semester calendar in fall 2008, making C-SC one of two institutions in the nation to have such a format.

2014

Kelly M. Thompson became the 26th president of Culver–Stockton College on July 1, 2014.

Doctor Kelly M. Thompson was elected in 2014 as the College's first female president.

2020

Douglas B. Palmer became the 27th president of Culver–Stockton College on July 1, 2020.
