About this Job:
Oversees the operation of the Boilers and Chiller Plant and associated equipment ensuring the efficient operation during assigned shift. May be required to lead or assist with regular maintenance or emergency repairs to the boilers chillers and/or related equipment.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Oversees/monitors the operation of the Chiller Plant during assigned shift. Ensures the systems are operating at best possible performance levels.
Performs regular maintenance/repairs to the Chiller Plant such as appropriate during shift reporting larger/ more complicated needs to the Forman or Power Plant Engineer I for action by the maintenance crew.
Assists the maintenance/repair crew with scheduled and emergency repairs to the boilers generators chillers and related Facilities Management equipment.
Ensures that assigned areas are operating within all applicable Hospital federal and local governing codes standards and regulations including but not limited to: OSHA NFPA The Joint Commission and Fire and Life Safety practices.
Learns and remains current with the latest applicable federal and local governing codes standards and regulations regarding fire safety plumbing electrical and plant operations including but not limited to: OSHA NFPA The Joint Commission ASHRAE ANSI DCRA D.C. Fire & Safety Codes and the Hospital's Fire and Life Safety practices.
Minimal Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma or GED required or
Trade/vocational school graduate or equivalent with courses in chemistry physics and/or mathematics and such training as to be able to read: layout diagrams blueprints mechanical drawings work sketches etc. preferred
Experience
completion of an approved apprentice training program required

Job Description
The Design Engineer will participate in the Global Engineering Group and deliver complex design primarily for new products. These designs should meet functional and manufacturability requirements while maintaining accuracy and adherence to the BAC's Global Design Standards and compliance to applicable regulatory requirements.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Responsible for the design and development of the product concept for the assigned NPI program.
Designs complex sub-assemblies and product modules with general direction of design intent per BAC's and industry's standards
Explore the impact that proposed designs will have on other subsystems, parts and assemblies and develops technical feasibility & cost impacts vs product requirements.
Owns the DFMEA - driving the process and resolutions to each item
Responsible for product testing and evaluation
Owns execution and timely implementation of the issue resolutions reconciling
Identify root cause, address and resolve issues and implement corrective actions
Utilize agile/scrum project management methodologies to organize and manage iterative development of the new products
Lead collaborative discussions with cross-functional teams to share, develop and resolve product design issues
Provide regular presentations to stakeholders and leadership regarding project progress.
Supports product improvement and cost-out opportunities including manufacturing, field, and warranty issues as applicable
Travel periodically to BAC manufacturing facilities to assist with prototype or pilot fabrication and assembly
NATURE & SCOPE
The Design Engineer reports directly to the Global Engineering Manager - NPI. The individual will work directly with the Team leads, Engineers, Designers, Cross-functional members and/or project manager of any projects in which he or she participates.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent with 3-5 years of experience
Working knowledge of Root Cause Analysis and product development process (Agile/scrum/ stage-gate / NPI)
Proficiency in 3D modeling software (Autodesk Inventor or equivalent) and Excel
Proficiency in reading understanding and generating 2D engineering / technical dwgs.
Sheet metal design experience
Project management Experience - desired
DFMA design (design for manufacturing & assembly)
Hands-on prototype building and testing experience
Highly Variable and modular product design
Autodesk Vault or equivalent system knowledge
HVAC / Refrigeration system working knowledge
Required Experience/Certification:
BS in Engineering or equivalent
CAD certificate preferred or min 3 Years (3000 hrs) of hands-on CAD experience

Our Engineers are involved with all phases of bringing products to market including designing, planning and overseeing the production of new designs. In addition, the Product Design Engineer will assist other departments in sourcing and product improvement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other functions may be assigned as business conditions change.
Working with our experienced engineering staff, invent, design and develop products and equipment that can be manufactured in-house, or produced by outside vendors/suppliers
Source existing product from outside vendors, and request modifications to meet unique Hog Slat functionality requirements
Perform or oversee rigorous testing to insure functionality, safety, efficiency, and durability. Diagnose problems and make design changes/adjustments when required
Support in-house Purchasing with buying/vendor selection as needed
Assist in upgrade of product literature to include text and artwork
Create technical documents for in-house manufactured items about the proper assembly, installation and operation of new equipment
SKILL/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
The ideal candidate will have the following experience/educational background:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Material Science field plus 5 years job experience (preferred)
Thorough understanding of drafting standards and techniques using Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools such as AutoCAD, Inventor, etc. as well as a capability to visualize components, features and assemblies in three-dimensional space
Ability to communicate effectively with vendors, customers and coworkers from a diverse number of technical and non-technical disciplines
Excellent math skills, especially in the areas of part dimensioning, tolerances and statistical principals
Understanding of industry standards such as NEMA and ASQC.
Strong costing background; ability to translate product costs and rewards to overall company profitability
Background in manufacturing processes and their capabilities
A working knowledge of modern hog and/or poultry industries a plus, but not required
Proficiency in utilized common computer software used in business; Excel, Word, PowerPoint
Must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record for liability and insurance purposes (some travel required)
