Dickinson State University company history timeline
Dickinson State University's story began on June 24, 1918.
The university considers June 24, 1918, to be its founding date; this was the first day of classes for the Dickinson Normal School.
Also, its first summer session in 1918 took place as a pandemic of what became (incorrectly) known as the Spanish Flu started to ravage the world.
The first student publication, Sakakawea, published in December 1919, is also in the scrapbook.
Dickinson State Normal School held its first commencement exercises on Thursday, July 29, 1920.
The first campus building, May Hall, was built in 1924.
During the summer of 1941, students built the rock wall surrounding the campus mall.
In 1966, Huffman was named university athletics director and chair of the Physical Education Division.
He held these posts until 1984, when he was named registrar and director of admissions.
In fall 2004, there were 500 students enrolled in distance learning courses. It first offered distance learning courses in 1998.
