Key Responsibilities:
Conduct diagnostic tests to identify issues and determine necessary repairs on diesel engines.
Perform routine maintenance tasks to prevent breakdowns and optimize performance.
Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient and accurate repairs
Complete preventative maintenance (PMs), safety inspections, and annual maintenance inspections.
Lead diagnostic tests to accurately identify complex issues and determine comprehensive repair strategies for diesel engines.
Perform advanced troubleshooting and repair tasks on diesel engines, including overhauling and rebuilding components to required specifications.
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior technicians, assisting them in developing their skills and knowledge
Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
4 or more years of experience as an automative service technician.
ASE certifications required; ASE certification program provided

Subject to a DOT drug testing and physical if applicable. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including cannabis, for any reason.
Physical Requirements:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

C. Level III- EVT Master Fire Apparatus Technician (must be ASE Master
Certified) - $7,000 per employee per year.
2. The City will reimburse the costs for taking examinations providing the employee
achieves a passing score. No reimbursement will occur in the event the employee
fails an examination. Reimbursement will be made in accordance with the Education
and Training Reimbursement provision of the parties' CBA. The benefit is separate
from the annual stipend for the certifications above.
3. All continuing education credit requirements necessary for ASE and EVT
certifications must be completed. All employees participating in the certification
program must complete a minimum of sixteen (16) hours of continuing education
credits each year.
4. On September 1 of each year, beginning September 1, 2015, all Fleet Services
employees shall present their credentials (documentation of a passing score or
certificate) to the Fleet Services Manager. An employee will be compensated for only
one level of certification. Compounding or pyramiding of stipends is not allowed.
The stipend will be issued in the paycheck for the first pay date in October of each
year. After processing the applicable stipend, a copy of all certifications shall be
forwarded to the HR Department and placed in their respective personnel files.

Proficiency in inspecting and maintaining the radiator, hoses, thermostat, and water pump to prevent overheating and ensure efficient engine cooling.
Ability to diagnose and repair cooling system leaks, flush the coolant, and replace components when necessary to maintain proper engine temperature.
Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing electrical issues, including troubleshooting wiring problems, testing, and replacing fuses and relays, and addressing issues with lights, switches, and electrical components.
Knowledge of electrical schematics and the use of multimeters and other diagnostic tools to identify and rectify electrical faults in the vehicle's · Ability to use diagnostic tools and scanners to identify and interpret trouble codes, assess sensor readings, and diagnose common vehicle issues.
Proficiency in visual inspections, listening to engine sounds, and conducting basic tests to identify problems with the engine, transmission, brakes, and other key systems.
Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing common engine issues such as replacing worn-out or damaged components, such as spark plugs, belts, hoses, and gaskets.
Ability to conduct basic engine tune-ups and address minor engine repairs to ensure proper engine performance and longevity.
Requirements
High School Diploma or GED required, vocational training or technical training program in automotive service technology or a related field preferred.
ASE Certification preferred, or a willingness to attain it with our full support and assistance
5+ years of hands-on practical experience.
Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and power tools is essential.
A valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to quickly identify issues and develop solutions is critical.
Attention to Detail: Precision in diagnosing problems and making repairs is necessary to ensure vehicles and machinery are operating safely and efficiently.
