What you will do:
Test electrical systems and circuits in electrical wiring, equipment or fixtures

Work with vendors to identify needed parts and recommend to Supervisor
Understand and update instrumentation loop diagrams, E & I drawings, blueprints and schematics
Program AC & DC variable speed drivers
Update power distribution system, MCC and switch gears
Install electrical equipment
What you need to be successful:
High School Diploma or GED
Detailed and accuracy oriented
Understanding of AC and DC control circuits
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams; have knowledge of 3 phase motor circuits, MCC's, power distribution and lighting circuits
Ability to work outdoors in all temperatures in loud, high volume environments performing physical tasks throughout the shift
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position which includes walking, standing, sitting, climbing stairs, bending and lifting-up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders, work in elevated work areas and tight close spaces
Pass a basic written, oral and or visual electrical exam

About this Role
The first step Apprentice will begin working on the job performing tasks related to his/her step. Step one Apprentice should concentrate on learning the skills necessary to climb and perform work from poles. All climbers must use 100% fall protection equipment when climbing and working aloft. At no time may a first step Apprentice perform energized work or get himself or any conductive object within five (5) feet of exposed energized primary circuits or equipment. Primary circuits are defined for the purpose of this program as having a voltage greater than 480. While working aloft on a completely de-energized line, the first step Apprentice must be supervised/observed by a qualified employee at the task location. While working aloft with energized circuits located on the pole, but not within five (5) feet of the first step apprentice, the first step Apprentice must be directly supervised and observed by a Lineman or Foreman at the same physical location as the Apprentice (on the pole with or in a bucket beside).

Working from poles.
Using gas/battery powered drills and chainsaws from poles.
Installing pole hardware/framing from secondary applications.
Installing pole grounds/grounding rods.
Assisting in groundwork to support the Lineman aloft.

Learning the use of the telescopic hot stick to open and close switches from the ground.

Physical Demands: This position is required to perform electrical work from ladders, scaffolds, platforms, and other cramped and hard-to-reach places. Duties require the incumbent to sit, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, crawl, and work in uncomfortable positions. The incumbent may be exposed to electrical shock, spark and arc hazard, and other health hazards. If the incumbent is assigned to perform electrical work in remote locations, the incumbent may be required to walk, hike, or drive over rough and uneven terrain. The incumbent is expected to lift and/or carry items up to 50 pounds, and occasionally exceeding 50 pounds in weight.
Working Conditions: Work is both indoors and outdoors. Depending on the geography of the park unit assigned, work may take place at elevations ranging from sea level up to 10,000 feet.
