Under general supervision of the Supervising Electrician and working independently or as a team member, the Electrician performs the full range of skilled journey-level electrical work at San José State University. Plans and performs work requiring a thorough working knowledge of electrical principles, wiring specification codes, properties of various materials, and principles of operation and application of equipment. Locates source of trouble of any type of electrical equipment by tracing and testing circuits and inspecting for faulty operation. Dismantles, inspects, repairs, adjusts, or replaces faulty parts, wiring on motors, generators, motors, power distribution and control panels, circuit breakers, rectifiers, electronic devices, etc. Reassembles, tests, and adjusts equipment for safe and proper operation. Performs work on “hot” lines as required. Replaces coils, resistors, rheostats, relays, etc. Adjusts contactors, relays, bus rigging, etc. Reconnects terminal leads, panels boards and distribution feeders. In emergencies, shunts out defective coils in order to get equipment back in operation. Changes DC motor characteristics by shunting DC coils, etc. Installs conduit, fittings, switches, controls, and fixtures, and wires and connects all types of electrical equipment as required for new installations or replacement of facilities. Makes all required splices and connector joints. Adjusts all new equipment for proper operating characteristics. Performs all work in a safe and efficient manner and keeps work area in a clean and orderly condition. Clean up all work areas. Performs any other duty supervisor assigns. Qualifications: Must have a minimum of 3 years of electrical work experience or successful completion of an electronics curriculum from an accredited program. Must have the ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams and drawings. Must have experience trouble shooting and repairing electrical problems. Computer experience is desired, previous PLC experience required. Must be able to wire motor control circuits and push-button circuits.

Under the supervision of the Superintendent and Project Manager, the Electrician Technician is responsible for electrical projects, repairs, and troubleshooting in all residential and commercial sites. Duties/Responsibilities: * Installs and repairs electrical wiring, systems, and fixtures in buildings. * Installs conduits and pipes to house electrical wires and cables. * Ensures piping complies with electrical codes. * Trouble shutting for diagnose repairs. * Installs circuit breakers and other electrical hardware and connects wiring to them. * Connects electrical systems to powerlines to provide electricity to the building. * Tests electrical systems to ensure proper installation and operation. * Inspects electrical systems to determine whether repairs are needed. * Replaces conduit and wiring as needed. * Replaces circuit breakers as needed. * Performs other related duties as assigned. * Verify compliance and functionality of installations * Maintain workflow schedule to ensure productivity objectives are met * Coordinate with other trades on site * Responsible for keeping and maintaining a clean workspace * Ensure that safety is paramount on all job sites Required Skills/Abilities: * Ability to read blueprints. * Extensive knowledge of electrical systems and wiring. * Ability to use hand tools and power tools. * Proficient in the use of test meters and other diagnostic equipment. * Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
