Stefan Scherer is the CTO of Embodied Inc., a leading robotics and AI startup. Embodied's first product, Moxie, is an award-winning, state-of-the-art companion robot that has recently been featured on the cover of TIME Magazine as one of the Best Inventions of 2020. This cutting-edge companion robot supports the development of social and emotional skills in children through play-based learning. Prior to joining Embodied, as a faculty member in Computer Science at the University of Southern California (USC) and the Associate Director of Neural Information Processing at the USC Institute for Creative Technologies (ICT), Stefan led a successful academic career pioneering multimodal machine learning and affective computing research with applications focusing on wicked problems in healthcare (e.g., depression or suicide risk assessment) and education. His research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, and the Department of Defense. Dr. Mario E. Munich is an InOrbit founder and current advisor. He is currently Chief Engineering Officer at Embodied and was formerly Senior Vice President of Technology at iRobot Corp. where he managed the research and technology development efforts. Previously, he was CTO at Evolution Robotics (acquired by iRobot), where he developed object recognition, and navigation and mapping algorithms for consumer robotics.
