As a key member of the stack team, this role will be responsible for a full range of duties including:
Project preparation: glassware preparation, cleaning procedures, repair, calibration, and fabrication.
Project deployment, testing per prescribed methods, breakdown, and demobilization of equipment.
Record test data ensuring information on datasheets is complete and accurate.
Practice safety methods and procedures, and report all potential dangers and hazards.

Your Opportunity
Stantec's Denver-based Environmental Services team is growing, and we have a need for an exceptionally talented and enthusiastic Project Level candidate to join our thriving site investigation and remediation practice. The candidate for this role is intended to perform field and office tasks associated with environmental site assessments, due diligence, and remediation projects. The opportunity will include coordinating and conducting data collection; coordinating and overseeing subcontractors; data interpretation/evaluation; deliverable preparation; project / program tracking; and internal and external communication. The primary focus of this role will be management of site investigation and remediation efforts at select sites that make up part of a larger portfolio of work.
Your Key Responsibilities
* Coordinate field activities and subcontractors (such as with laboratories, private locators, and drillers)
* Perform field work, which may include Phase I ESA site visits, groundwater sampling, drilling oversight, soil logging, soil sample collection, and asbestos building inspections
* Represent Stantec by interacting in a professional manner with clients, property owners, subcontractors, and other relevant stakeholders while on field assignments;
* Demonstrate sound application of established practices, standards and guidelines;
* Complete applicable company- and client-required health and safety trainings (including OSHA required training).

* Communicate with client (with oversight from client manager) and determine a path forward for select sites within existing portfolios.

Pay Range:
* Locations in CO, HI, IL, MD & Various CA, NJ Areas-$67,300.00 - $97,600.00 Annually
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Experience and willingness to spend multiple days (up to 8 days at a time) car-camping in remote areas; familiarity or willingness to learn and adhere to best practices for field safety and Leave No Trace principles
Excellent communication skills, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Positive attitude and attention to detail
Willingness to spend several hours per day and/or per week riding in, navigating, and driving a 4WD vehicle on paved and unpaved roads, often in remote areas on unimproved roads and driving for extended periods of time (2-3 hours at a time)
Physically capable of standing and walking (up to 6 miles/day on rough, uneven terrain), bending and crouching for long periods of time, and lifting/carrying items that weigh up to 40 pounds, in variable weather conditions, including heat upwards of 100-degrees (F)

Passionate about learning the world of plants, soils, and rangeland ecology
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience digging soil pits to characterize and document soil horizons and hand texturing various types of soils
Experience with collecting data via tablets using FieldMaps and Survey123

CDM Smith's Environmental Services Group is seeking an Engineer, Scientist or Geologist with a.) experience modeling contaminant transport through sediment caps and/or b.) a working knowledge of computer-aided design (CAD) in remediation projects combined with basic geotechnical engineering experience (significant academic coursework may suffice) related to remediation projects located anywhere within the United States.
The candidate must have demonstrated expertise working independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team on remediation projects for a variety of clients including those in the Federal and Public sector. Candidates with more extensive experience may be considered for a higher grade level than what is proposed for this advertisement.
Roles and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following regarding sediment remediation projects:
- Understanding the scientific and engineering principles of modeling contaminant fate and transport through sediment caps in subaqueous systems. Experience with CapSim is preferred.
- Experience using CAD to develop drawings for contaminated sediment dredging and/or soil excavation projects, including an ability to follow direction from a senior engineer with minimal continual oversight
- Experience performing slope stability modeling.
- Experience with the development of field sampling programs and subsequent data analyses to support the development of conceptual site models, mass balances, and data-based understanding of fate and transport processes. This would include experience with interpreting results from sediment cores, bathymetric surveys, etc.
- Experience with numerical and/or desktop model development, calibration, and application.
- Experience evaluating the feasibility of sediment remediation technologies and assisting in the development of sediment remediation designs for large contaminated sediment sites involving multiple stakeholders.
- Serve as CDM Smith's primary interface with clients on complicated sediment tasks; this includes having the ability to assess and understand a problem and develop and communicate a technical strategy to the client.

* Investigation of instrument data logs may be necessary where required to identify instrument performance information that may require sample to be voided.
* Industrial Hygiene Monitoring Equipment Management
* The Industrial Hygiene team maintains an inventory of sampling equipment and instrumentation to be used in the collection and completion of assigned sampling / monitoring surveys.
* Accurate, documented evidence of daily instrument calibrations where required.

The Central Lab is an AIHA Accredited Laboratory capable of performing analysis of samples collected in accordance with the NIOSH 7300 and 7500 analytical methods.
* All other collected air samples (ie Diesel Particulate Matter, Asbestos, Legionella, etc) must be submitted to an accredited third party laboratory for analysis as instructed by the responsible Industrial Hygiene Advisor.
* Confined Space Monitoring Equipment Management
* The technician is responsible for the field and office support of confined spaced monitoring equipment, calibration, gas replacement, and docking stations where necessary.
* Personal Gas Detection Device Management
* The technician is responsible for the field and office support personal gas detection monitors, calibration gases, and docking stations where necessary.
* Data Management
* The Industrial Hygiene team utilizes Cority for all sampling information and data management.
* All sample related information must be accurately entered and managed in Cority in a timely manner.
* Field Sampling Data Cards, Work Logs, Noise Dosimetry Reports, Certificates of Analysis, and other sample related documents must be scanned and uploaded into Cority in a timely manner.
* Communication
* The primary point of contact for each Technician will be the responsible site Industrial Hygiene Advisor.
* Incident Investigation
* Reviews sampling data upon receipt to determine if the PPE worn during the sampling period was protective.
* The Technician may assist in the investigation of such exceedances to understand the conditions present during the sampling event and determine if the measured exceedance was in the protective range of the PPE worn during the sampling event.
* Documentation and Recordkeeping
* All sample related information must be documented on provided Field Sampling Data Cards
* NIST traceable factory calibration certificates must be maintained, and demonstrable as required
Qualifications:

The participant will live and work at the Henry Mountain Field Station (HMFS) located in Hanksville, Utah, which is 45 minutes east of Capitol Reef National Park and 147 miles west from Grand Junction, Colorado. Work will be coordinated through the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Richfield Field Office Recreation Program and be stationed in Henry Mountain Field Station. The Henry Mountains is a well-known point of reference in southeast Utah, reaching almost 12,000 feet at the top of Mt. Ellen. Whether you enjoy big game hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, or just like driving through the mountains, you'll find your niche in the beauty of Central Utah. The Henry Mountain Range is one of the few places in the country where a buffalo herd roams free and is also rich in geologic resources. Many universities visit the area to study the exposed geologic layers in an outdoor setting. Paleontological resources such as the Hanksville-Burpee Dinosaur Quarry is a dinosaur bonebed located on federal land which to date has revealed the remains of at least 15 different dinosaurs.
The participant will work directly with the Field Station Manager managing day-to-day operations of the public room. The participant will conduct field work maintaining and monitoring recreation sites and high use recreation areas as well as monitor special areas within the resource area. This is a great opportunity to learn about outdoor recreation and federal land management. You will work closely with land management professionals to learn about resource management and travel management planning. The participant will interact with visitors and share educational information, tips for safely recreating on public lands and to protect the unique resources. The participant will be required to wear a uniform and to represent the SCA and the BLM in a positive and professional manner.

**Pay Range:**
- Locations in CO, HI, IL, MD & Various CA, NJ Areas-$67,300.00 - $97,600.00 Annually
**Pay Transparency:** In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
**Benefits Summary:** Regular full-time and part-time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave. Regular full-time and part-time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).
Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.

Details The Departments of Atmospheric Sciences, Geology and Geophysics, and the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Utah invite applications for multiple faculty positions at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor level beginning as early as July 1, 2024. We seek applications in the broad areas of climate science and impacts and strongly encourage applicants who would interact with and advance the mission of the recently-launched Wilkes Center for Climate Science and Policy, which will separately evaluate successful candidates for prestigious named positions. We are particularly interested in candidates with strengths in any of the following areas: climate and weather extremes, modeling of climate processes, climate change impacts and forecasting, climate detection and attribution, biosphere-atmosphere interactions, paleoclimate and Earth's history, climate and water resources, and quantitative climate biology, including climate-related disturbance ecology (e.g. wildfires, droughts), climate-related disease ecology, and ecosystem or land-surface modeling.
