The primary function of this role is to own the process providing project cost estimates and quotes that deliver and drive business, then to manage the project steps through to completion. This position must work closely with sales, production and supply chain to coordinate schedules. The role will also participate in customer interface activities, KPI reporting, and immediate coordination for urgent issues to any/or all Wisconsin Heavy Fabrication leadership personnel, as needed.
Responsibilities:
Estimating
Lead estimating and quoting process in response to customer requests/RFQs.
Gather project details working closely with business development to understand full scope of work
Examine customer specifications and details
Review with others to understand customer timeline requirements and Wisconsin Heavy Fabrication's capabilities and schedules
Uses knowledge of manufacturing, fabrication, welding processes, capabilities and capacity to assist sales in product pricing, schedule and technical requirements.
Work with Manager to prioritize and manage projects, meeting customer timelines
Organize and maintain records associated with the quoting process; maintain pending quote log
Upon project completion, analyze actual production hours and materials and compare to the quotes
Coordinate raw material & purchased part purchases with the Purchasing team once PO's are received for quoted work.
Establish preliminary Bill of Materials (BOM)
Support periodic evaluation of labor rates compared to estimates
Project Management
Ensures we have a successful implementation
Serves as an interface to ensure all critical information is available enabling production to meet customer specifications and we
Works with supply chain and production to understand status of necessary parts for scheduled jobs
Supports initial project launches; coordinates with others to perform work in alignment with the project and to meet the customer specifications.
Reports internally on progress and any constraints that may be an obstacle to meeting our targets; actively works to help manage the project constraints
Facilitates meetings with project team and resources (i.e. Quality Engineers, Plant Leads on the team) and participates in weekly meetings (or more often as appropriate)
Communicates project wins and concerns with Manager
Initiates post project meetings to analyze results - cost, contribution margins, processes, etc. to look for continual improvement opportunities
Support safety and EHS programs outlined in our Company EHS policies and any applicable State or Federal regulatory requirements; Coordinates with EHS regarding scheduling and contractor safety briefings
Ensure compliance with all ISO and regulatory standards
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a related discipline (welding, machining/fabrication, engineering, manufacturing, project management, construction, etc.) preferred; Associates degree and/or a combination of directly related experience may be reviewed in lieu of a degree.
Minimum 5 years of experience to include a combination of: fabrication, heavy steel weldments, structural estimating, engineering, inventory, varying equipment types and environments; experience in process manufacturing, costing, quality assurance or technical purchasing desired
Direct experience in managing projects from inception to delivery (in a metals fabrication environment preferred)
Understands a variety of manufacturing/fabrication processes and equipment
Engineering experience or understanding desired; familiarity with CAD desired
Knowledge of basic statistical process control methods, understanding of lean principles and/or ASQ Certification as a CQA and/or SSBB a plus
Valid Driver's License in good standing and proof of insurance

Metal Fabrication Estimator
The Metal Fabrication Estimator will be responsible for receiving and analyzing the Request for Quotes (RFQs) for a customer metal fabrication company.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Provide accurate quotations based on customer supplied blueprints.
Work with the Leads to get accurate fabrication hours and lead times.
Request updated raw material pricing.
Request outside operation pricing and determine the best vendor by analyzing the cost differences and lead time.
Locate new vendors when needed and establish a working relationship.
Ensure RFQs are being completed in a timely manner.
Comply with all requirements noted by the RFQ requestor.
Skills/Qualifications:
Blueprint reading is a must.
Knowledge of fabrication and manufacturing processes.
Knowledge of the metal supply industry.
Proficient computer skills and ability to use Microsoft Office.
