Description
The Cost Estimator is responsible for preparing all ESAM customer quotations, with a focus on accurate material cost and labor estimates. This role involves creating and analyzing BOMs, sourcing components, obtaining supplier quotes, and working cross-functionally to ensure pricing accuracy. Completed quotations are submitted to management for review and finalization before submission to the customer.
Responsibilities:
Create new & modify existing assemblies in accordance with customer and engineering specifications.
Review and interpret customer documentation, including but not limited to layout drawings, wire lists, schematics, cut lists, and BOMs to determine component needs.
Estimate labor involved in production of assembly.
Source and obtain quotes from vendors for materials, components, and outside services.
Analyze material lead times, minimum order quantities, and pricing breaks to optimize cost proposals.
Communicate regularly with customers, supplier representatives, and internal management.
Make recommendations to improve efficiency in estimating and quoting processes.
Perform special assignments and other duties as required.
Requirements:
Proficient in Microsoft Excel; comfortable working with spreadsheets and cost models.
Ability to work independently, meet tight deadlines, and manage multiple priorities.
Knowledge of manufacturing catalogs, vendor datasheets, and component specifications.
Capable of quoting from physical samples when formal documentation is limited.
Ability to read small print and distinguish color on wires and schematics.
Skilled in using general office equipment: copier, printer, scanner, fax, etc.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills.
Able to sit for eight (8) or more hours a day
Preferred Qualifications:
2+ years of experience in cost estimating or materials planning in electronics manufacturing.
Familiarity with ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 quality management systems.
Knowledge of vendor negotiation practices and global supply chain trends.

Core Purpose
Generate accurate, competitive estimates for commercial (and select residential) glass and aluminum projects by performing takeoffs, reviewing plans/specs, managing bid opportunities, and supporting submittals/shop drawings. This role is crucial to securing profitable work and strengthening contractor relationships.
What Youll Do
Daily
Prepare small storefront quotes and change orders.
Perform quantity takeoffs from PDFs/blueprints; leverage measurement tools to speed up and improve accuracy.
Conduct job-measure wall checks for residential and commercial projects.
Read/interpret architectural plans/specs
Manage project documentation (details, budgets, timelines, updates).
Create value-engineering and design options that meet customer/GC needs.
Communicate clearly with GCs/subs about bids, alternates, and scope clarifications.
Weekly
Prepare comprehensive takeoffs for large storefront/curtain wall packages.
Coordinate with PMs/drafters on shop drawings; contribute to submittal packages and pre-job prep.
Maintain and update a keep list of upcoming bids; own deadlines.
Build pipeline: call or reach out to contractors to uncover opportunities.
Ensure estimates address insurance and compliance requirements/notes.
As Needed
Revise and issue change orders when scope shifts.
Negotiate pricing or scope with contractors to protect margins.
Tackle unique/custom designs with detailed estimates.
Support PMs/production with estimate clarifications and RFIs.
Troubleshoot discrepancies in drawings, specs, or field measurements.
Level bids and vendor quotes; document inclusions/exclusions/qualifications.

What You Bring (Requirements)
Storefront/glazing knowledge (commercial aluminum doors, frames, hardware; insulated/tempered/laminated glass).
Blueprint reading & plan/spec interpretation
Proficiency with digital takeoffs
Experience with glazing estimating platforms (GDS WinBidPro or similar) a plus.
Understanding of building codes and typical submittal/shop-drawing workflows.
Strong Excel skills; detail-oriented, organized, and deadline-driven.
Clear, professional communication with GCs, subs, vendors, and internal teams.
Valid drivers license; ability to perform site measures with laser/tape; basic PPE use.
Nice to Have
GDS/WinBidPro experience (vendor catalogs, optimized cut lists, and reporting).
Bluebeam power-user (custom measurement tools/markups for faster QTO).

Job Description:
We specialize in HVAC and plumbing retrofits as well as new system installations. The Residential Estimator is responsible for driving new sales in a professional and knowledgeable manner by assessing customer needs, providing tailored HVAC and plumbing solutions, and ensuring customer satisfaction from estimate through project completion. This role includes developing detailed cost estimates and proposals for both heating/cooling systems and plumbing projects such as water heaters, re-pipes, fixture replacements, and system upgrades. Key Responsibilities:
