DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Maintains shift documentation (i.e., Metal Detector and Batch Order Verifications) * Reads production schedule and plans accordingly. * Reads and interprets schedule in MicroStrategy. * Able to print labels on different printers, choosing correct program for each printer; move eye and clean printers. * Perform nitrogen testing. * Efficiently maintains the operation of packaging machinery by monitoring codes, dates, and prices. * Maintains an adequate supply of roll stock and ensures all packaging materials are available for each machine. * Set up and write new programs for bag makers. * Writes and/or edits machine micro logic as needed to maintain an efficient and low waste operation. * Creating and modifying code dates. * Performs preventative maintenance on equipment. Sets up and makes minor scale repairs and adjustments. * Perform span calibration and/or adjustments on scales, adjust scales linkages so it opens and shuts correctly, make minor adjustments to formers. * Efficiently operates packaging equipment which may include case sealers and robot cells. This includes but is not limited to machine setups, troubleshooting, changeovers, proper running, procedural adjustments, sanitation cleanup, preventative maintenance, and shutdown. * Properly plans ahead for machine changeovers and efficiently changing from one product item to another. * Monitors and adjusts each machine to ensure proper cut off film and bags have proper end seals and back seals as required. * Ensures machines are running at standard speeds. * Monitors product appearance and adheres to weight control program. * Performs bag weight checks every 20 minutes and inspects for quality issues. * Able to run bagger, scales, counting conveyor, seal checker, weight check, case packers, and other auxiliary equipment as needed. * Identifies and resolves packaged product quality issues. * Properly accounts for product run off and handles this product; accordingly, sorts through and reworks all good product * Keeps machines and work areas clean, wipes packaging machines off and blows down area when required to do so. * Immediately reports any maintenance problems to appropriate technician and/or supervisor. * Practices and adheres to appropriate safety and hygiene guidelines/procedures for safe housekeeping and personal protection. * Stores supplies in designated areas. * Keeps work area aisles/exits clear and free from obstruction; removes trash from work area floor. * Follows instructions for safe lifting/carrying of various sizes, shapes, and weights; identifies/reports issues with equipment; reports all job-related injuries to supervision. * May provide leadership and direction to packers. * May be qualified to perform as Back-up Packaging Coordinator, or other technical/skilled position. * If applicable, may monitor and replenish seasoning on overhead to ensure proper seasoning coverage on product. * Mandatory overtime may be required. * May perform other duties as required. Material Handlers work under general supervision, work safely, provide the highest quality, defect free product to our customer as well as meet all the requirements of a Material Handler. The primary duties of a Forklift Operator include: Load production lines, as instructed by the production supervisor with appropriate raw materials. Maintain current and correct raw material inventory. Unload raw materials from trailers, fill out unload sheets to ensure proper raw materials count. Calculate raw materials weight per bale, and fill out contamination report on unloaded raw material. Dump and bale hoppers of sorted raw materials. Dump hoppers of contamination in the trash compactor. Remove bulk boxes of aluminum cans from line, put lid on box, and store box in appropriate row in the warehouse in a neat, orderly manner. Remove hoppers of scrap metal from lines, and dump in the appropriate metal bin in the yard. Remove chipper wire hopper from underneath the wire chipper; dump in the appropriate metal bin in the yard. Remove finished goods from production lines, and store in the appropriate rows in the warehouse in a neat, orderly manner. Receive parts and supplies and store in designated areas. Secure packing slips for receiving and properly complete all necessary paperwork. Keep work area clean. Train fellow employees as requested. Qualifications Minimum of 1 year forklift experience preferred. Material Handlers are required to interact with other managers, employees, vendors, and customers. Therefore, the following skills and proficiencies are also essential requirements of the position: Ability to maintain regular, predictable, and punctual attendance. Computer usage and typing skills are essential. Excellent verbal and written communication, including the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers. Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service. Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices. Communicates effectively: conveys facts and information clearly both verbally and orally. Collaborates well with others: proactively contributes to group objectives; volunteers to help others. Compensation Statement The expected salary range for the position described in this posting is made in accordance with the legal mandates of certain jurisdictions within the United States. Job Overview Logistics Operator III is responsible for various assignments, duties, and tasks within the Warehouse which, may or may not require the use of a PIT Forklift to complete. This position performs other tasks assigned by Warehouse Management including, pallet stacking, handling damage restack and, or rework, stacking product, and picking up pallets with a Pallet Jack, when applicable.
