In 1913 his body was finally laid to rest in a magnificent marble sarcophagus, modeled on the tomb of Napoleon, in the chapel crypt of Annapolis Naval Academy; a far cry from his humble beginnings in Scotland.
Through the intervention of President Theodore Roosevelt, Jones’ remains were reinterred in an ornate tomb at the Naval Academy Chapel at Annapolis, Maryland, in 1913.
Ten years Mitchell's junior, DeJoria was a Los Angeles native who left the United States Navy in 1964 to enroll in dental school.
With the help of a friend who worked at an employment agency, DeJoria secured an interview at Redken Laboratories in 1971.
To lose himself from the hair-styling crowd, Mitchell moved to Hawaii in 1975.
In 1986, the company ranked 71st in Inc. magazine's top 500 companies, with sales hovering at the $100 million mark.
Mitchell was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and died in 1989, stripping the company of one of its integral spiritual leaders.
DeJoria launched a line of 3D cellphones under his ROK Stars brand in March 2019.
