The Distribution Lineman A is responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of overhead and underground electrical power lines and associated equipment. This is the highest level of a multi-step progression from Apprentice to JourneymanLineman. A Distribution Lineman A is expected to be proficient in all aspects of linework and serve as a leader and mentor to lower-level crew members.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
* String, splice, transfer, and sag wire in both energized and de-energized circuits; connect wires and transformers per specifications
* Work regularly above ground using climbing gear, man lifts, boom trucks, or other specialized equipment
* Utilize underground fault-locating equipment and perform line routing or re-routing, including near energized systems
* Select and use proper hot line tools and safety gear, including rubber gloves, line hoses, jumpers, and fiber guards
* Install, maintain, and remove crossarms, pins, insulators, guys, switch racks, transformers, and U.R.D. equipment
* Handle installation and removal of meters, cut-outs, disconnect switches, and circuit breakers with proper rigging techniques
* Perform line switching, sectionalizing, phasing, load checks, and emergency repairs
* Inspect lines, poles, and equipment for damage or wear; report deficiencies and hazards
* Assist with pole handling, setting, guying, and tower erection
* Support the training of Apprentices and other crew members
* May troubleshoot and repair both company-owned and customer electrical systems
Job Requirements
* High school diploma or GED required
* Journeyman-level experience with overhead and underground electrical distribution systems
* Valid CDL Class A license required to be maintained while in the position
* Current First Aid, CPR, and Pole Top Rescue certification required
* Must pass drug, alcohol, background, MVR, and clearinghouse checks upon hire and continuously while in position
* Must pass a DOT physical examination
* Willing and able to:
* Travel long distances on short notice
* Work extended hours, weekends, and overtime as needed
* Work in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and snow

Line Mechanic C
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Assemble, install, maintain, remove and competently inspect overhead, and underground facilities including conductors, cables, transformers, fixtures, structures and other associated equipment under immediate or general supervision as skill level dictates.
After completion of C-100, or equivalent experience, shall be competent to perform work on conductors and equipment energized up to 260 volts under general supervision. Assist with work on conductors and equipment energized at secondary voltages to 600 volts under immediate supervision of higher classification.
After completion of C100, or equivalent experience, test, de-energize and ground URD cable, Splice and terminate URD cable, and troubleshoot, repair and energize URD cable and equipment under immediate or general supervision as skill level dictates.
After completion of C-200, or equivalent experience, shall be capable of working on conductors and equipment energized up to 600 volts under general supervision. Use volt meters, amp meters, ground meggers, continuity testers and other electrical test equipment associated with line work on voltages up to 600 volts.
After completion of C-200, or equivalent experience, may cover up stationary tied in (cannot transfer) primary conductors and equipment under direct supervision as skill level dictates.
After completion of C-300, or equivalent experience, may cover up, transfer or move primary conductors and equipment under direct supervision as skill level dictates.
After completion of C-400, or equivalent experience, perform the same duties as outlined in the B classification during the first TWELVE MONTHS. (Wording from LMB description - During the first twelve months in this classification (LMB) assist with work on energized lines, cables and equipment.

Splice or solder cables together or to overhead transmission lines, customer service lines, or street light lines, using hand tools, epoxies, or specialized equipment.
Cut and peel lead sheathing and insulation from defective or newly installed cables and conduits prior to splicing.
Clean, tin, and splice corresponding conductors by twisting ends together or by joining ends with metal clamps and soldering connections.
Pull up cable by hand from large reels mounted on trucks.
Lay underground cable directly in trenches, or string it through conduit running through the trenches.
Cut trenches for laying underground cables, using trenchers and cable plows.

A day (or night) in this role
You arrive for your shift and jump into action-tracking down a fault on an Allen Bradley PLC, swapping a photo-eye sensor that's throwing bad reads, and tuning a VFD to bring a motor back into spec. You'll move between HMIs, sensors, motors, and servo systems, troubleshooting electrical and mechanical issues that keep production running smoothly.

Excellent organizational skills with careful attention to detail and timely follow-through.
Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills.
Must be self-directed and capable of handling multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
