POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Laboratory Assistant performs pre-analytical processes associated with collection and processing of laboratory specimens. Demonstrates a commitment to client experience, quality, and safety. Essential Work Functions:

Follows Standard Operating Procedures while safely carrying out the responsibilities of position. Complies with all company safety standards, and all federal, state and local laws.

The Montana Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (MVDL) is a bureau of the Animal Health and Food Safety Division of the Montana Department of Livestock, within the executive branch of Montana state government. The laboratory is currently housed in one facility within the Marsh Laboratory building on the Montana State University campus in Bozeman Montana and serves as the only accredited, full-service veterinary diagnostic laboratory in Montana. The Montana Central Milk Testing Laboratory is a laboratory section of the MVDL.
The Milk Laboratory Technician is a technical position, encompassing examination of dairy samples to include microbiological analysis, chemical analysis, antibiotic residue testing, and chemical/physical characterization. Job functions also include completion of quality control measures, production of sanitarian and client reports, monitoring of section technical materials and environmental conditions, maintenance of section equipment, review and revision of section procedures, proficiency testing participation, and coordination and support of quality system and section process to ensure the compliant fulfillment of laboratory objectives. Paying strict attention to safety, integrity, dependability, analytical thinking, quality control, record detail, regulatory and quality system compliance, industry standards, and client customer service is paramount to this position.
Equipment used to complete work duties are typical of microbiology laboratory settings including, but not limited to, analytical balances, autoclaves, biological safety cabinets, centrifuges, incubators, pH meters, stirrer/hot plates, and water purification system. WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the Laboratory Technician is frequently exposed to a variety of chemicals, including acids, reducing agents, and bases, small to medium sized moving mechanical parts, flour dust and/or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but areas of the plant may reach 100 dB. Ear protection, safety glasses, dust masks are provided for the employees safety. The laboratory is an air-conditioned environment but the employee will be exposed to manufacturing temperatures that will exceed 37.8 Degree's C (100 Degree's F)

Granite County Medical Center is a critical access hospital, 25 bed capacity with two healthcare clinics providing ER, X-ray and PT services. Job Duties:
-The lab technician position is per diem providing coverage for vacations, emergencies and busy times of the year.
-24 hour coverage in addition to any call time coverage, and to be available according to the call back policy.
performing laboratory tests in order to produce reliable and precise data to support scientific investigations;
carrying out routine tasks accurately and following strict methodologies to carry out analyses;
preparing specimens and samples;
constructing, maintaining and operating standard laboratory equipment, for example centrifuges, titrators, pipetting machines and pH meters;
ensuring the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced;
recording and sometimes interpreting results to present to senior colleagues;
using computers and performing mathematical calculations for the preparation of graphs;
keeping up to date with technical developments, especially those which can save time and improve reliability;
demonstrating practical procedures if working in education;
conducting searches on identified topics relevant to the research;
following and ensuring strict safety procedures and safety checks.
Education, Training and Experience:
-Must meet the requirements for a clinical laboratory technician as noted in the current rules pertaining to clinical laboratory science practitioners in the State of Montana.
-Requirements under CLIA regulations that must be met
-Regulations that concern continuing education must also be met
All patients testing by the clinical laboratory technician will be under the supervision of the laboratory supervisor.
-All results will be checked within 24 hours, either by telephone, in person, or by electronic means.
-Must posses a current MT CLT license.
Key Responsibilities:
To perform specific tests in areas mentioned above. See the lab QA manual for the list of tests which each lab employee is authorized by the lab director to perform. The testing includes calibration, actual testing procedures, preparation of reagents, internal and external quality control, and reporting of results. The testing of the laboratory technician is expected and required to be performed accurately, precisely, and dependably 100% of the time.
To forward samples to appropriate labs when tests are ordered that are not in this facility.
Keep accurate records on all patient test results and all quality control.
Provide periodic preventive maintenance on all laboratory equipment, instruments, etc.
To insure that the laboratory is neat, clean, and in efficient running order at all times and to provide a safe working environment.
To keep abreast of recent technical developments in lab medicine and acquire 14 hours of continuing education per year.
To generally assist and cooperate with the laboratory supervisor in providing the best possible functioning of the laboratory and in turning out reliable and cost effective work.

Responsible for assisting in the overall direction, utilization, supervision, instruction and evaluation of professional and supportive staff, volunteers and students utilized in the Lab Department.
