JOB DEFINITION:
This is an entry level position and is provided with on-the-job training. After completion of job training, this position demonstrates skills and abilities to perform routine tasks assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS (Required):
Education: High School or equivalent education (GED) and some college level courses with lab work in general, analytical and/or organic chemistry.
Experience: No previous experience is required although appropriate experience may be used to satisfy a portion of the educational requirements.
Skills: Should be able to handle simple algebraic calculations. Should have good eye/hand coordination and a general understanding of basic chemistry concepts, good communication skills and demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Complexity of Duties: Requires the ability to comprehend and perform scientific written and oral instructions with supervision.
Supervision Received: Direct supervision through Lab Supervisor or designated alternate.
Supervision Exercised: None.
Impact on Operations: Assurance of quality products is dependent on accurate completion, review, and reporting of assigned tasks.
Contacts: Direct contact with production personnel.
Environment: This position works primarily in the laboratory areas. Requires good physical, visual, and mental attention. On occasion special safety equipment may be required for entry into a hazardous manufacturing area.
Waste Disposal: Isolation, remediation, containerizing RCRA hazardous waste generated in the assigned process area and under guidance of supervisory personnel.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Complete assigned jobs on time in as written in procedure. Assure accurate completion of tests to minimize retests on same sample. Understand and follow lab and company safety, quality, and behavioral policies. Maintain good relationship with plant personnel contacts. Responsible for safe and compliant handling of RCRA hazardous waste in accordance with all appropriate regulatory requirements. Notify Cost Center Leader and/or Quality Supervisor if any out of the ordinary conditions occur. Must be fully certified on Entry Level Lab Technician procedures within 12 months of hire and be recertified biennially. An Entry Level Lab Technician will not be considered for promotion if he/she is on probation for any reason.

Scores sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines.

Position Purpose:
MercyOne recognizes that certain Cath Lab positions (such as Cath Lab Nurses) require on-site training and practical experience, and that it would be in the best interest of both MercyOne and potential candidates for these positions to sponsor a Training Program for Cath Lab Nurses interested in gaining the practical experience required to move into these roles.
What you will Do:
The Cath Lab Training Program is for a period of up to six (6) months. The Training Program is on an at-will basis and participants may be removed from the Training Program, with or without cause, at any time as determined appropriate by MercyOne in its sole discretion. Successful completion of the Training Program does not modify the at-will nature of the employment relationship, nor does it guarantee that the Trainee will be selected for hire.
Participants who successfully complete the Training Program will be eligible for a Full-Time Cath Lab RN role.
If Trainee ends employment prior to fulfilling their employment commitment (18 months of full time employment) a repayment plan will be developed in partnership with Human Resources.
Trainee will be responsible for attending all lectures, demonstrations, or other presentations. In addition, since much of the Training Program focuses on learning by watching and doing, Trainee will perform any and all duties now and later assigned to Trainee by MercyOne. Trainee will also perform such other duties as are customarily performed by one holding such a position in other settings as that engaged in by MercyOne. In addition, Trainee must abide by MercyOne's rules, regulations, and practices, including those concerning work schedules, paid time off, as they currently exist and may from time-to-time be adopted or modified.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduate of a program in professional nursing.
Current RN licensure in the state of Iowa.

Park Nicollet is looking to hire a Laboratory Assistant to join our team! Come join us as a Partner for Good and help us make an impact on the care and experience that our patients and their families receive every day. The Laboratory Assistant will provide a wide range of laboratory services including specimen collection, client service and reception desk duties, ordering/ scheduling/ billing functions, laboratory testing, phlebotomy, dispatching, specimen processing, centrifuging, delivery of specimens to appropriate laboratory/department and assuring proper efficiency and workflow management. Position will also serve as a resource for questions from hospital and clinic staff regarding specimen handling and processing.
Required Qualifications:
* Strong customer service skills.
* Ability to work independently.
* Good problem-solving skills.
* Demonstrates knowledge of age-related growth and development principles necessary to provide appropriate service and assure safety of patients.
* Demonstrates strong organizational skills with the ability to meet time-sensitive customer requests and changes on short notice.
* If travel is required for the position, team member must have a valid driver's license and meet the insurability requirements relating to Park Nicollet's motor vehicle violation criteria.
Preferred Qualifications:
* High school graduate or equivalent.
* Experience in a medical related field or an applied science degree.
* Certification in phlebotomy and one year hospital experience. ASCP certification for phlebotomy is preferred.
