What you will do
Johnson Controls is seeking an HVAC Test Lab Supervisor (1st Shift) to oversee daily operations within our state-of-the-art Engineering Test Lab in New Freedom, PA. In this role, you will lead a union team of 40+ employees, ensuring that all activities are carried out in alignment with company policies, applicable laws, and the union contract. Key responsibilities include supervising staff, planning and assigning work and ensuring new employees have completed onboarding and are properly trained. This is an onsite position, and candidates must either live within commuting distance to New Freedom, PA, or be willing to relocate.
How you will do it
Supervise the daily operation of key test lab areas balancing the needs of the customers with the available resources.
Assists to manage the day-to-day operations, including labor reporting and transactions, maintenance program, 5S and organization and union issues that might arise.
Address employee performance and corrective action plans; employee motivation and rewards.
Support Health & Safety through participation in Joint Health Safety Committee, weekly safety training, completion of safety audits, and Safety Action Reports.
Maintain maintenance and project list to support effective allocation of resources to include assembler, welder, and electrician work.
Facilitate the loading/unloading of Industrial HVAC equipment with crane service and lift plan.
Ensure the accuracy of timekeeping and production management systems that include LODIS, MRP, and Kronos systems across all 3 shifts.
Maintain refrigerant, oil, propane (liquid and vapor), oxygen, acetylene and nitrogen tracking logs each month and order as needed to support testing requirements.
Ability to work 1st or 2nd shift schedule as needed to support the business. Hours will be 7:00am - 4:30pm Monday - Friday.

The Processing Lab Supervisor will supervise and optimize all the tasks in the Post Processing Lab and will assist the Lab Manager and Manufacturing team by maintaining quality control measures in the extraction and purification processes and thereby ensuring the delivery of high-quality product. This Supervisor carries out day-to-day tasks including prepping for distillation runs, formulations, and Ethanol extractions, and maintaining paperwork using good documentation practices. The Laboratory Supervisor will be a hands-on working supervisor responsible for extraction team training and schedule coordination between early and late overlapping shifts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Directly supervises the Post Processing staff and accomplishes department results by communicating job expectations; weekly and monthly planning; monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.
* This position and all output metrics report directly to the Lab Manager. These reports will include all daily production metrics, establishing actual vs. expected production results with explanations of variances, staff absences and all associated production paperwork.
* Shows the capability to effectively communicate with management and co-workers on a professional basis. This will include all team members, leads, supervisors, and upper management.
* Preparing for efficient production by reviewing the manufacturing schedule; studying and clarifying specifications; calculating batch requirements; assembling and weighing plant materials and supplies for extractions, distillations and formulations.
* Ensure proper scheduling of Post Processing team, accounting for PTO and call offs when applicable.
* Performing all training required for Post Processing team, including maintaining all required documentation.

* Cleaning and maintaining lab equipment and laboratory facility following current good manufacturing practices (cGMP), and standard operating procedures; complying with legal regulations.

* Maintaining strict inventory within state-issued cannabis inventory software, MJ Freeway, via regular cycle counts of WIP inventory.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Processing Lab Supervisor will supervise and optimize all the tasks in the Post Processing Lab and will assist the Lab Manager and Manufacturing team by maintaining quality control measures in the extraction and purification processes and thereby ensuring the delivery of high-quality product. This Supervisor carries out day-to-day tasks including prepping for distillation runs, formulations, and Ethanol extractions, and maintaining paperwork using good documentation practices. The Laboratory Supervisor will be a hands-on working supervisor responsible for extraction team training and schedule coordination between early and late overlapping shifts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directly supervises the Post Processing staff and accomplishes department results by communicating job expectations; weekly and monthly planning; monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.
This position and all output metrics report directly to the Lab Manager. These reports will include all daily production metrics, establishing actual vs. expected production results with explanations of variances, staff absences and all associated production paperwork.
Shows the capability to effectively communicate with management and co-workers on a professional basis. This will include all team members, leads, supervisors, and upper management.
Preparing for efficient production by reviewing the manufacturing schedule; studying and clarifying specifications; calculating batch requirements; assembling and weighing plant materials and supplies for extractions, distillations and formulations.
Ensure proper scheduling of Post Processing team, accounting for PTO and call offs when applicable.
Performing all training required for Post Processing team, including maintaining all required documentation.
Operating highly sophisticated extraction and processing equipment; Processing concentrate, extracts and formulated products.
Cleaning and maintaining lab equipment and laboratory facility following current good manufacturing practices (cGMP), and standard operating procedures; complying with legal regulations.
Operating, maintaining, adjusting, trouble shooting, and repairing laboratory equipment such as extractors, heaters, chillers, vacuum pumps, balances, centrifuges, distillation units and other laboratory equipment.
Operating extraction equipment to extract crude oil utilizing Ethanol as a solvent in a C1D2 environment.
Operating highly sophisticated purification equipment to convert crude oil into decarboxylated oil.
Following procedures for extract purification, including ethanol addition, winterization, filtration, rotary evaporation, decarboxylation and distillation.
Assisting with the development of further purification processes and in-process materials, including processes for new products.
Maintaining inventory records of supplies, materials, equipment PMs as required, and preparing requisitions as needed.
Maintaining strict inventory within state-issued cannabis inventory software, MJ Freeway, via regular cycle counts of WIP inventory.
Storing supplies and equipment, disposing of waste according to state guidelines, and keeping laboratory, storerooms and working areas organized.
Performing clerical work related to laboratory activities such as word processing, record keeping, data logging and filing.
Maintaining material safety data sheets for all department chemicals and products.
Performing related duties as assigned
Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:
BS/BA Degree or greater in Chemistry, Bio-Chemistry or similar.
Minimum of 2 years' experience in a lab or manufacturing setting.

Ability to Follow health and safety practices and precautions applicable to an extraction laboratory

Experience with computer systems, software, and hardware common to laboratories
Experience with record keeping procedures, as well as regular audits of team's production sheets to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Preferred Qualifications:
1-year experience in the cannabis industry preferred
QA/QC experience with HPLC and GC analysis preferred but not required.
