Position Summary:Note: This is a temporary full-time position scheduledthrough the Winter 2026 semester only (Ends on May 7, 2026), to provide leave coverage. The Instructional Laboratory Assistant - Welding and Fabrication is a year-round, classified faculty position responsible for supporting faculty and students in achieving academic success within the Welding and Fabrication program. Working a 40-hour week, the lab assistant will provide hands-on guidance in lab activities, demonstrations, and technical support while maintaining lab safety and ensuring the proper operation of equipment and resources. Additionally, this role assistswith student recruitment and retention efforts, fostering an environment that promotes learning, skill development, and career readiness.Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:Instructional and Student Support:• Demonstrate and guide students through welding and cutting processes, including SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, MCAW, SAW, PAC, CAC, OFW, OFC, soldering, and brazing.• Observe, coach, and assist students with homework, lab assignments, and class projects to ensure proper technique and understanding of concepts.• Provide feedback and technical support to help students achieve academic success and meet course objectives.• Relay course objectives and instructor expectations to students as needed, ensuring clarity and alignment with the curriculum.• Oversee student safety within the lab environment. Laboratory Setup and Maintenance:• Set up, operate, and break down lab equipment for demonstrations and lab sessions, following instructor guidance.• Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair laboratory equipment to minimize downtime and ensure functionality.• Ensure lab and classroom environments are safe, organized, and conducive to learning by following safety protocols and guidelines.• Assist in inventory management, including tracking and procurement of supplies through scan tools and related software.Faculty and Program Support:• Collaborate with faculty by supporting classroom and lab activities, creating student handouts, presentations, and assisting with assignments.• Respond to faculty requests for technical or instructional support to enhance the learning experience.• Mentor and track part-time workers under the direction of the supervisor.• Maintain accurate records related to inventory, equipment maintenance, and student progress as required.Recruitment, Outreach, and Events:• Participate in student recruitment efforts by promoting the program during campus tours, promotional events, and visits to local high schools.• Assist in the organization of welding competitions, open houses, and program-related events to showcase the program and student achievements.Administrative and Technical Duties:• Support program marketing and promotional efforts by assisting with events, presentations, and outreach initiatives.• Manage relationships with vendors and suppliers for inventory procurement and equipment servicing.

Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:• Associate degree in Welding Technology or a related field.• AWS Certified Welder (CW) certification.• Five years of documented full-time experience in the welding/fabrication industry.• Proficiency in welding processes, including SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, MCAW, SAW, PAC, CAC, OFW, and brazing in ferrous and non-ferrous materials.• Knowledge of blueprint reading, fabrication techniques, and operation of heavy equipment (press brake, saws, shears, tubing bender, drill press, cold saw, etc.).• Proficiency with standard and metric measuring devices.• Basic computer skills in MS Excel and Word, and the ability to scan/print.• Professional email communication skills and a valid driver's license.• Availability to work days, nights, and weekends, with limited travel as needed.

The Part-Time Lab Assistant in Electrical Technology will serve as a key role in the Electrical Technology Lab, assisting the instructor of record in delivering instructional content. The assistant will guide students in completing lab projects and assignments, offering necessary support and instruction. They will also provide student performance evaluations as requested by the instructor.
Key responsibilities include preparing the lab by ensuring all required tools and materials are set up for each class, and maintaining a clean and organized environment by inspecting the lab and classroom after each session. A Lab Assistant functions as the secondary source of instruction in the Welding Lab to support instruction provided by the instructor of record. Assists students in completing lab projects and assignments by providing necessary instruction. Provides evaluation of student performance as requested by the instructor of record. Ensures that the lab is set up and prepared with all required tools and materials for the assigned class and planned instruction. Inspects the lab and classroom area after each class to ensure proper cleanup of the facility. Coordinates the ordering, inventorying, and maintenance of lab supplies, tools, and equipment. Must be able to effectively communicate and demonstrate knowledge of specific technical skills in the lab to a diverse student population. Must have the ability to collaborate with students and peers in order to establish an environment where safety is not compromised. The successful candidate will be an advocate for shop safety and be very familiar with Personal Protective Equipment and safe industrial practices.
