Medix is hiring Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLTs) to support clinical laboratory services at a leading Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. This position plays a vital role in supporting the Department of Defense's medical mission by performing diagnostic testing across multiple disciplines to ensure clinical readiness and high‑quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities
Perform clinical lab tests in:
Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Serology, Cytology, Histotechnology, Urinalysis, Blood Bank, and Phlebotomy
Prepare and process biological specimens while maintaining sample integrity
Operate, calibrate, and perform routine maintenance on laboratory instruments; troubleshoot and perform minor repairs as needed
Conduct and document quality control and assurance procedures
Enter and verify results in the Laboratory Information System (LIS); ensure accurate and timely reporting
Comply with Joint Commission standards, infection control procedures, and DoD regulations
Prepare biological waste for proper disposal in accordance with safety and environmental guidelines
Participate in mandatory trainings (e.g., MHS Genesis, DMHRSi)
Required Qualifications
Minimum 1 year of experience in a clinical laboratory setting
Completion of a minimum 6‑month clinical lab rotation in all core departments
Graduate of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program
Current certification by ASCP, AMT, or NCA
Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA‑approved)
Must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, or otherwise authorized to work in the U.S.
Ability to pass a background investigation and credentialing process
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a military, federal, or high‑volume clinical lab setting
Ability to perform light lifting (up to 20 lbs) and routine physical tasks such as standing, walking, and bending

Medical Microbiology Technologist Responsibilities Include:
Support the MRSN mission, collect MDROs and send them to the MRSN weekly, and respond to the inquiries from the MRSN leadership.
Participates in the development of research protocols and grant proposals and in the conduct of research related to MRSN activities.
Performs routine and specialized procedures, reviews, and approves clinical test results for use in the diagnosis and treatment of patients in accordance with established protocols for a laboratory performing high complexity procedures as defined by the standards of the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988.
Perform microbiological examinations on a variety of specimens using morphological, cultural, and biochemical identification of microorganisms.

Performs occasional duties on weekends/holidays if such duties are approved by the COR and the contractor's program manager.
Assists in Inventory Control to assure adequate supplies (QC, reagents, calibrators and other consumables are available and reagents are stored properly (temperature sensitive). Supplies are dated appropriately when placed in use.

Successful completion of a Medical Technologist program (BA or BS) or Medical Laboratory Technician (AAS) program to meet the College of American Pathologists (CAP) accreditation and certified as a Medical Laboratory Technologist or Medical Laboratory Technician by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA), or American Medical Technologists (AMT).

Uses the principles of growth and development to assess each patient's age-specific needs.

Follows and assists the Laboratory Manager in implementing and enforcing Medical Center, HHSC< and other governing agency policies and procedures with patients, employees, and visitors.
Acts as a clinical resource for other medical technologists and medical center staff.
The duties of the laboratory manager may be assumed in the absence of the laboratory manager, and section supervisors must follow the direction of the assistant laboratory manager.
Adheres to the established standards for section supervisors.
Participates and assists in departmental studies and projects.
Provides consultation and education to members of Medical Center staff and community agencies in efforts to solve patient issues.

All you need is:
Bachelor's Degree in medical technology or related science from an accredited program
Current certification or registration as a Medical Technologist such as ASCP, NCA, HEW, AMT, or equivalent
Valid and current State of Hawaii license as a Medical Technologist
Minimum (4) years of clinical laboratory experience in a hospital/commercial lab setting. The Medical Director may use discretion in the assignment of a supervisory position to an individual with less than (4) years of experience.
