Kalamazoo Valley is seeking lab assistants to work in the brewery lab in both the operations and/or the lab setting. This position helps with cleaning brew systems, fermentation and finishing vessels and other parts and equipment according to standard operating procedure (SOP) and performing metrics on beer such as testing gravities, yeast cell counts, and yeast viability assessments. Duties include but are not limited to: * Transferring of beer via soft piping and pumps to finishing vessels. * Using Brewing Operations software for inventory and beer tracking purposes. * Assisting during brew days, including student and Brew Club brews. * Daily monitoring of fermentations. * Application of treatments such as dry hops or other additives. * Monitoring and correcting the carbonation of beer prior to packaging. * Operating cellar equipment such as pumps and tanks of compressed gasses. * Assembling and breaking down appropriate hose and part configuration depending on process. * Packaging finished beer via kegs. * Maintenance, transferring and emptying of kegs. * Setting up, adjusting, and operating lab equipment and instruments. * Performing, recording and testing results for beer metrics. Skills required: * Ability to multitask and adjust to changing priorities. * Mechanical aptitude. * Attention to detail. Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required. Job Description Perform miscellaneous tasks throughout the lab, including cleaning, ordering, discarding of solutions, organizing supplies, and retrieving and returning samples from sample storage Learn to perform monthly maintenance on both laboratory equipment Prepare samples for analysis and monitor some instrumentation with minimum supervision including. Instrumentation will also be cleaned and stored appropriately after use Assist with Inventory process within the group Perform a variety of organizational tasks to aide in the everyday functionality of the laboratory Perform laboratory cleaning responsibilities of equipment and controlled rooms Work efficiently, document work clearly, and perform responsibilities accurately Special projects as necessary/as directed Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship The Ideal Candidate would possess: Strong computer, scientific, and organizational skills Excellent communication (oral and written) and attention to detail Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, keep accurate records, follow instructions, and comply with company policies Additional Information Position is full-time, second shift Monday - Thursday 2:00pm - 12:00am (4x10 schedule). PURPOSE/SCOPE: Support production operations with ability to perform regular production inspections & new tooling layouts by using any lab measurement equipment. Operates and maintains OGP, CMM, vision system, and all other Metrology lab equipment. In addition, must have the ability to perform basic programming for automatic lab equipment & complete a PPAP submission. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Capable of using all lab manual & programmable measurement equipment. Able to complete basic programming for metrology equipment to measure parts efficiently & accurately. Plex information - review, interpret, & react appropriately (Ref WI-QA-718). Basic blueprint reading skills including GD & T. Understanding of lab operations, interactions with other depts., & purpose (ref. lab mission statement). Capable of using all lab activity logs properly. Understands lab safety. Contributes to continuous improvement activities. Responsible for maintaining a neat, clean, and well-organized quality lab. Other appropriate duties as required by the Metrology Lab Manager. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION: A high school diploma or equivalent. Two years' experience using spreadsheets. Excellent data entry skills. Ability to read blueprints. PREFERRED QUALIFICATION CMI/CQT certification or refresher course. Working knowledge of: ISO 9000 / IATF 16949 SPC (Statistical Process Control) Basic Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing R & R studies Computers Mechanical inspection and layout techniques Must be able to use: Vision System Optical Comparator C.M.M.
