* Monitors the collection, transportation, storage, identification and processing of specimens to ensure specimen integrity prior to testing. Takes appropriate action if acceptable criteria are not met. Recognizes deviation from expected results, analyzes and corrects problems using scientific principles and laboratory policies.
* Performs preventative maintenance and basic troubleshooting of instrumentation and equipment. Communicates problems and potential problems to appropriate staff members.
* Analyzes quality control data, makes judgments concerning the results and takes appropriate action to maintain test accuracy and precision.
*Education:*
* Associate degree in a science-related field with a certificate of completion from a Medical Laboratory Technician program from an accredited institution. Military education and experience will be considered providing that the applicant has completed the full laboratory training course of 52 weeks and has at least one year's experience in a military hospital.
* A minimum of six months clinical internship is preferred. Those with military education will need at least one year's experience in a military hospital. Certified as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent.
* May be hired into this position if he/she has completed the requirements for registration but has not successfully completed the MLT exam; however, the exam must be successfully completed within 6 months subsequent to hiring. Demonstrates professionalism and teamwork.
* Has knowledge of and can operate laboratory related computer software and systems.
* Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training is required within 6 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter.

Job DescriptionThis position works under the direction of the Director of Laboratory Services. This position, along with the Laboratory Coach, Quality/POC, is directly responsible for the operational management of the main laboratory and laboratory testing performed at all branch locations.
The Lab Coach is a salaried position. The expectation of exempt staff is typically 40-45 hours/week. The primary hours for this position will be 8:30am-5pm, with additional hours as needed. Position-specific Responsibilities
Responsible for the effective and efficient daily operations of the Automated Laboratory including Chemistry, Immunochemistry, Hematology, Coagulation and Urinalysis technical areas.
Oversees quality assurance activities for all areas of responsibility.
Develops and evaluates laboratory methodologies, protocols, and techniques in areas of responsibility and makes recommendations for the selection of new procedures, products, and equipment.
Ensures that staff are oriented and trained on procedures, operation of equipment, safety and patient care services and that competency assessment is developed and conducted according to accreditation standards.
Oversees ordering, care, maintenance, validation, and utilization of equipment to ensure accurate and efficient performance.
Maintains a working relationship with vendors to ensure favorable pricing contracts.
Works cooperatively with the Laboratory Information System staff to update lab software to support laboratory testing and reporting.
Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to investigate patient care issues related to laboratory testing. Fosters positive physician interactions. Ensures appropriate handling of physician complaints and interacts with clinicians to address concerns regarding laboratory testing in areas of responsibility.
Works collaboratively with internal and external customers to ensure the lab test menu includes testing appropriate for patient care and turn-around times that meet or exceed expectations.
In partnership with the Laboratory Quality Coach, is responsible for coordination of day-to-day functions of all laboratory departments and oversight of all laboratory roles in the clinical laboratory.
Assists the Administrative Laboratory Director with the development of capital and operational budget.Monitors and controls operational expenditures and productivity to achieve budget growth and ensure financial viability.
Assists the Administrative Laboratory Director with hiring of new employees.

Experience:
One to three years of similar or related experience. Experience preferred, but not required. New grads welcome to apply!
Education:
MLT or MLS certification is required. Completion of two-year college degree or bachelor's degree through an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology/Medical Laboratory Science program.
Interpersonal Skills:
Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization, generally regarding routine matters for purposes of giving or obtaining information that may require some discussion.
Physical Aspects:
Stooping - Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.

Reaching - Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
Standing - Particularly for sustained periods of time.
Walking - Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances.
Pushing - Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.

Talking - Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly or quickly.
Hearing - Perceiving the nature of sound with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound, such as when making fine adjustments on machined parts.
Vision - 20 / 40 or better in the best eye with or without correction.
Repetitive Motions - Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
None - The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work).
