Essential Functions:
* Execute a variety of non-technical but essential laboratory tasks necessary to complete testing projects in accordance with quality guidelines and assigned turnaround times
* Assist with the set-up and maintenance of the laboratory, instrumentation and equipment (i.e., cleans and sterilizes glassware)
* Assist with the shipping, receiving, labeling, logging, tracking and storage of test samples
* Ability to measure quantities of liquids and other substances for test preparation purposes
* Assist with media and/or sample preparation
* Follows all established procedures and protocols
* Supports the quality and safety programs
* Administrative functions such as filing paperwork, photocopying, scanning, emailing, etc.

Job Duties:
Assists in patient care under the immediate supervision of a registered nurse preceptor and as assigned by the nurse in charge.

Summary
Performs comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders under the general supervision of the medical director of the sleep center and/or sleep center manager, or designee. Provides diagnostic and therapeutic services/interventions, comprehensive patient care, and patient education based on diagnosis from the referring provider. Assists patients with walking and re-positioning during the study evaluation.
Job Duties
Performs sleep study preparation and set-up procedures per departmental protocols including but not limited to: reviews the patient's history and verifies the medical order; explains testing procedure to the patient/caregiver; prepares and calibrates testing equipment to determine proper functioning and makes adjustments, if necessary; and applies electrodes and sensors according to accepted standards.
Performs polysomnographic procedures following department protocols to ensure collection of appropriate data; maintains continuous visual and auditory monitoring of patient and clinical events on the recording.
Implements appropriate interventions necessary for the safety of the patients such as positive airway pressures and oxygen administration, etc.
Educates and trains patients on the use of home sleep testing (HST) equipment; performs portable monitoring equipment preparation and data download. Identifies artifact, inadequate signals, and study failures. Generates an accurate final report.
Documents routine observations including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and other clinical events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results. Completes and submits all documentation based on policies/standards and regulatory requirements.
Performs polysomnographic record scoring and reporting per departmental protocols and adheres to AASM scoring parameters. Generates accurate final report for physician review reflecting all aspects of the polysomnographic record.
Performs post-testing procedures including proper cleaning, sterilization, and maintenance of equipment. Adheres to hospital and department policies/procedures including safety and infection control related to sleep department practice/operations/environment.
Provides cost effective care in accordance with department billing guidelines.
Participates in all aspects of performance improvement and quality assurance measures within the department. Evaluates the effectiveness of sleep test/interventions against expected outcomes based on current evidence.
Provides supervision in accordance with regulatory requirements, as appropriate.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Sitting up to 7 hours per day in 2 hour increments. Standing up to 5 hours per day in 2 hour
increments. Walking up to 7 hours per day in short increments. Frequently uses fingers to
manipulate small vials, pipetting, etc. Continuous use of hands for operation of laboratory
equipment and computer keyboard. Occasional lifting of boxes/equipment up to 30 pounds.
Occasional pushing/pulling of equipment. Frequent stooping/bending. Occasional crouching.
Frequent reaching above shoulder level and stretching across work area (30" depth). Hearing as
it relates to normal, high, and low frequencies. Seeing as it relates to general, far, near, color and
peripheral vision. Depth perception.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical or biological science or medical technology from an accredited institution. ASCP eligible.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
One year of clinical laboratory training.

Job Description
+ Safely handles potentially infectious blood, body fluids, body tissues and other patient specimens in compliance with regulatory standards.
+ Assesses suitability and acceptability of patient specimens.
+ Rejects unacceptable specimens according to established protocols.
+ Matches order information with specimen information to ensure accuracy and patient safety.
+ Accessions and results according to procedure via appropriate computer application.
+ Correctly assigns billing numbers, location codes, and physician numbers.
+ Verifies physician orders when test requests are unclear.
+ Prepares specimens as appropriate including centrifugation, aliquoting, labeling.

+ Maintains equipment, participates in established preventative maintenance program, and alerts supervisor of any equipment problems.
+ Assists in proper handling, storage, and maintenance of supplies, notifies supervisor when inventory is low.
+ Successfully completes initial and periodic competency assessments for all assigned job functions.
