Responsibilities:
* Conduct, direct or assist with test development and methodology/equipment evaluation, selection and implementation.
* Recognize critical, abnormal and unacceptable test results and follow-up according to established protocols. Recognize factors that affect measurements and results and initiate the necessary corrective action according to established protocols. Identify problems with instrumentation, methodology, specimens, supplies, or results and take action as outlined in predetermined protocols.
* Operate and maintain equipment within the scope of training utilizing defined schedules and written instructions to perform quality control checks, preventive maintenance, and calibration. Perform minor repairs. Use reagents and supplies in a cost-effective manner; monitor and maintain an appropriate supply inventory.
* Train and orient new employees, students and residents, as applicable and as assigned.
* All duties inclusive of an MLT (Medical Laboratory technician), and:
* Interact with all laboratory customers courteously and professionally; respond to telephone inquiries in a timely manner.
* Maintain in-depth knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments and their interrelationships as well as physiological conditions affecting test results.
* Adhere to established laboratory and hospital policies in areas of procedures, methods, quality control, quality assurance, safety, compliance and personnel policies. Follow established procedures for the collection (including phlebotomy, as required) and processing of specimens for analysis including the appropriateness and stability of the sample. Perform qualitative and quantitative analytical procedures according to established protocols with precision and accuracy in a timely and efficient manner.
* Assume responsibility for first-line supervision of the section/department on a temporary basis as delegated.
* Performs High Complexity Testing (as defined by PA DOH) without direct supervision.
Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT):
* Associate's degree in a laboratory science with certification (or eligible new graduate) from an accredited institution as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT),
* OR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science, with 6 months of clinical laboratory experience
* OR equivalent education and experience as defined by CLIA '88 for individuals performing high complexity testing.
Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS):
* Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university AND successful completion of a CAHEA accredited Medical Technology program,
* OR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical or clinical laboratory science AND ASCP categorical certification,
* OR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science AND at least two years' experience in a role equivalent to that of a Medical Laboratory technician (MLT) in a clinical laboratory,
* OR equivalent education and experience as defined by CLIA '88 and PA Bureau of Laboratories for technologist performing high complexity testing.

Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for carrying out duties involving extraction of crude oil. This includes operating and maintaining equipment for grinding, hydrocarbon and supercritical CO2 extraction.
Responsible for maintaining a clean lab, including infrastructure and equipment.
Assisting the extraction team with preparation of materials for the day's extractions as well as helping to tear down, turn around, and set back up extraction equipment as needed.
Responsible for accurate data entry and inventory.
Assisting in the formulation of final products before they are sent to the filling line as needed.
Assist the filling line staff in preparation and tear down of equipment as needed.
Assist packaging and other departments as needed.

Responsibilities:
* Medication Reconciliation: Collect and verify patients' home medication lists by conducting interviews and gathering information from external sources such as physician offices, family members, pharmacies, and care facilities. Document findings promptly in the medical record and escalate any barriers to the appropriate clinical teams.
* Vaccine History Collection: Obtain and record vaccine information from patients or prior medical records to support comprehensive care planning.
* Discharge Support: Assist with discharge-related medication needs, including "meds-to-beds" services and other planning tasks within your scope. Communicate professionally and in alignment with UPMC Core Values, ensuring any discrepancies in medication data are addressed and resolved with the appropriate disciplines.
* Collaboration & Communication: Maintain open, respectful communication with team members and supervisors. Share feedback constructively and report any personal challenges that may impact job performance.
* Confidentiality & Prioritization: Uphold all confidentiality policies and manage your workload effectively to meet patient care needs.
* *Performs other duties as assigned.
* High School Diploma or equivalent.
* LPN preferred.
* Two or more years of experience in a related role preferred (such as EMT, Paramedic, Pharmacy Technician)
* Will complete a medical terminology course during orientation and corresponding electronic modules related to the job.
* Ability to communicate effectively in relation to medications.

How you'll contribute
Performs diagnostic testing on patient samples to assist physicians in diagnosing and monitoring disease states. Reports to the Director of Laboratory Services.
