Duties And Responsibilities The Assistant Instructional Lab Manager is a part-time (8 hours per week) position supporting the Physics Instructional Lab Manager in preparation of physics labs and related equipment and working with academic users of lab equipment. The Assistant Instructional Lab Manager provides logistical assistance to the operation of introductory undergraduate lecture and laboratory courses in the Department of Physics. On an annual basis, this position assists in managing the logistics for 73 lectures and 159 laboratory sections, with a total student enrollment of 4700 students per year. Duties and responsibilities include: Assist in preparation, setup and take down of equipment for Physics class lectures and lab courses. Assist in maintaining, repairing, updating, and modifying lab and demonstration equipment and troubleshoot instructional equipment issues. Completion of an accredited Medical technician intern-training program required. Job Specific Duties: Performs quality control (QC) and documentation per department protocol for assigned area(s). Monitors and evaluates QC for test results according to established protocols. Performs accreditation-related tasks to include, competencies in the CAP Competency Program and proficiency testing. Maintains competency in computer skills and updates and modifies application additions to appropriate systems. Accurately orders/cancels tests, verifies results and documents in Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Contributes to the writing and revisions of polices and procedures as applicable to assigned area(s). Performs clinical patient testing utilizing a variety of technologies. Evaluates specimen integrity, patient/specimen identification, instrument function and appropriate lab technique at every stage and request clarification and assistance as needed. Performs testing in a timely manner and maintains efficiency with specimen. Performs specimen processing and evaluates specimen requirements of all tests. Appropriately packages specimens for transport to reference laboratories. Maintains knowledge of state and federal shipping and transport requirements for infectious and hazardous materials. Assists in billing requirements for referral tests. Reviews and reconciles reference laboratory invoices for accuracy. Monitors and maintains adequate supplies for specimen collection and transport of referral tests. The testing includes calibration, actual testing procedures, preparation of reagents, internal and external quality control, and reporting of results. The testing of the laboratory technician is expected and required to be performed accurately, precisely, and dependably 100% of the time. To forward samples to appropriate labs when tests are ordered that are not in this facility. Keep accurate records on all patient test results and all quality control. Provide periodic preventive maintenance on all laboratory equipment, instruments, etc. To insure that the laboratory is neat, clean, and in efficient running order at all times and to provide a safe working environment. To keep abreast of recent technical developments in lab medicine and acquire 14 hours of continuing education per year. To generally assist and cooperate with the laboratory supervisor in providing the best possible functioning of the laboratory and in turning out reliable and cost effective work.
