Qualifications
Education:
College graduate, Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent.
Licensure/Certification/Registry:
Registration as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP or equivalent) required. If hired prior to September 2014, five years experience as a MLS may be considered in lieu of registration.
Experience:
Three to five years experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist and a minimum two years as a level II Medical Laboratory Scientist with in depth knowledge of the global laboratory operation. Three (3) years of comparable experience demonstrating in depth knowledge of global laboratory operation may be considered in lieu of internal level II experience.
Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Responsibilities
Performs various laboratory tests, evaluates data, correlate results with pathologic and physiologic states and patient therapy to determine validity and reasonableness of data.
Evaluate and calculates quality control statistics to assess accuracy, reproducibility and validity of laboratory methods.
Performs analytical and decision-making functions without direct supervision, recognizes unexpected results, and take necessary corrective action.
Integrates and relates laboratory data generated by various sections in making judgments regarding possible discrepancies.
Assists in the preparation and presentation of teaching materials for the Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology.
Performs preventative and most corrective maintenance and repairs on sophisticated and often computerized laboratory equipment. Calibrates laboratory instruments to assure accuracy.
Demonstrates knowledge and theory behind instrumentation. Diagnoses laboratory instrument malfunctions, and decides when back-up methods must be initiated. Operates all instrumentation in assigned areas and performs all technical procedures.
Evaluates and/or develops new test procedures, monitors them for unexpected problems or sources of error.
Researches, reviews and write technical procedures.
Collects and controls laboratory specimens.
Assures the quality and timeliness of patient results by investigating any problem involving specimen collection, results reporting and turn-around times.
Recognizes unexpected results, errors and problems with patient test. Identifies the technical instrumental or physiologic cause, such as patient variable or interfering substances.
Maintains and communicates department records of tests performed, test results and equipment maintenance.
Assists in the overall operations of the laboratory including utilization of resources and laboratory safety regulations.
Maintains regulatory and safety compliance (i.e. CAP, AABB) in area of responsibility.
Assumes primary responsibility for accurate and timely completion of all testing performed within all areas of responsibility.
Maintains 12 hours of continuing education per year, and cross-training in a minimum of two diverse technical areas.
Must be capable of performing all testing within areas of primary responsibility.
Assumes operational management authority for areas of responsibility in the absence of senior management personnel.
Conserves hospital resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to perform job duties.
Contribute to departmental operations by performing other related duties as may be required and/or assigned.
Contributes to effective customer relations by assisting patients, visitors, physicians to resolve expressed concerns and by demonstrating a welcoming and helpful attitude.
Ensures that professional and personal activities conform to Memorial Medical Center strategic plan and philosophy regarding the Guest Relations Program.
Performs other related work as required or requested.

Min USD $16.50/Hr. Max USD $24.82/Hr. The basic function of this position requires that the employee be able to perform rudimentary laboratory duties. A variety of tasks fall within this classification such as blood collection from patients of all ages; performance of CLIA waived testing/other specimen collection; maintaining the stock of phlebotomy supplies; knowledge of insurance requirements for laboratory testing; completion of paperwork to accompany specimens; and basic scheduling.
Qualifications
Education:
* High School graduate or equivalent required.
* Completion of a phlebotomy course, preferred.
Licensure/Certification/Registry:
* Certification for breath alcohol testing and drug screening, preferred.
* Valid CPR certification by end of first week of employment required

* Assists with various aspects of diagnostic testing including obtaining and/or preparing specimens, labeling/recording, and communicating results. Performs miscellaneous CLIA-waived testing. Depending on clinic, may perform EKG's/rhythm strips, breathing treatments, pulse ox, oxygen administration and place/remove Holter monitors.
* Adheres to strict quality control policies, procedures and manufactures guidelines. Maintains appropriate documentation related to quality processes. Accountable for achieving quality standards.
* Assists with the ordering, care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies. Assists in the clinic overall financial performance.
* Completes all required paperwork to accompany specimens for testing via computer entry.
* Participates in the orientation and/or phlebotomy training of personnel as directed by administrative staff, supervisor or other authorized personnel.
* Assists clinic in meeting goals related to quality and patient satisfaction by providing outstanding service and compassion while completing phlebotomy/lab tasks.

Responsible for the performance of both routine and special test procedures for which qualified by education, training and experience. Accountable for accurate results and the proper use of quality controls, materials and procedures. Must recognize the interdependency of tests and conditions that affect test results. Correct own errors, and use and maintain a variety of complex instruments. Watch for potential problems and correct any that arise. See that reagent inventories are kept at proper levels. Under minimal supervision, work on the development of new methods and techniques to be used in the laboratory. Serve as a methodology ""troubleshooter"" in the investigating and correcting problems. May be responsible for the work of others during the temporary absence of the manager. Participate in continuing education programs.
Draw blood samples.
Perform routine, special and automated tests for which qualified in hematology, coagulation urinalysis, clinical chemistry, serology, and immunology.
Set up, read and report results of cultures in bacteriology.
Make and read smears.
Perform prescribed quality control procedure for all tests and record results in proper record books.
Teach laboratory procedure to new laboratory personnel.
Perform test procedures in accordance with the procedure manual.
Inventory and request supplies and reagents as needed.
Prepare reagents as needed.
Maintain a neat and clean work area.
Assist the physicians in any manner you can.
Abide by the policies of this laboratory.
Report test results to authorized personnel.
Required to rotate between sections due to variations in workload, staffing and orientation programs.
Required to rotate shifts with other laboratory personnel.
Required to fill in at satellites.
Print PE-7 log at satellites and record workload.

Maintains phlebotomy area and carts in a neat and clean manner, well stocked with supplies.
