Position Description Legal Services of the Hudson Valley (LSHV) has immediate openings in our Yonkers office for a full-time staff attorney who will serve survivors of domestic violence in family court proceedings: including family offenses, custody, visitation, support and related matters in Yonkers Family Court. Duties of the Position: intakes and individual case work, litigation in state courts, trials, motions, including appellate practice, and education and outreach efforts directed at community members, advocates and service providers. The person hired will also be expected to adhere to program and case handling standards, funder requirements, the highest professional standards, and be available as a resource to LSHV staff and access to justice communities. Qualifications Admission to the New York State Bar or passed the NY bar and awaiting admission; One or more years of legal experience, including litigation, or its equivalent; or a demonstrated commitment to family law including law school classes and prior internships; Understanding of the nature and dynamics of domestic violence; Excellent people skills; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders. Preferred Demonstrated commitment to serving low-income persons with prior experience in legal services or similar program; English/Spanish bilingual Experience representing clients in family court proceedings. Salary: $78,850 - $145,784, DOE, union scale, with excellent benefits that include medical, dental, vision, life insurance and long-term disability coverages, as well as a defined contribution to 403b, loan repayment assistance and paid parental leave. Representing over 60% of the c4 funding raised by the Nationwide Membership team, monthly donors are the centerpiece of the ACLU's Nationwide Membership program. This position will be responsible for helping to manage marketing efforts across multiple channels to acquire, convert, retain, upgrade and recapture sustaining donors. YOUR DAY TO DAY Manage upwards of 148 marketing campaigns annually, designed to acquire, upgrade, convert, and recapture sustainers through direct mail, email, texting, digital ads and telemarketing. Oversight will include but not be limited to managing segmentation strategies to ensure donors are receiving the right ask at the right time, data pulls to ensure that segmentation strategy was properly executed, copy review to ensure that the ACLU's message is accurately translated into an effective ask, and bluelines to ensure final product aligns with strategy. Manage telemarketing vendor call performance through close monitoring to manage quality control, review donor feedback, update talking points and manage volume and scale in response to media moments. Ensure that vendor invoices accurately reflect work promised and completed. Work with vendors to ensure that issues are corrected. Track and report on monthly sustainer billing success: success rates, month over month performance, and reported decline reasons. Use success reports to lead regular strategic planning on how to increase success rates. Handle escalated and high-dollar sustainer pledge inquiries and concerns: updating pledge details, looking into duplicate payment concerns, and similar issues Assist in day-to-day management of direct marketing campaigns, with a focus on telemarketing, email, and text. WHAT YOU'LL DO Reporting to the Senior Director of Nationwide Leadership and Planned Gifts, the Deputy Director of Gift Planning Administration is responsible for using their knowledge of estate planning and administration, as well as the administration of life income gifts, to manage the organization's fiduciary, compliance, due diligence and management responsibilities with regard to charitable life income gifts and bequests received from trusts and estates. YOUR DAY TO DAY Lead a team currently consisting of a Manager and two Coordinators. Oversee the operations of the Gift Administration team, which includes monitoring the administration of trusts and estates in which the ACLU has an interest. Oversee due diligence, including examining fees, taxes and other costs that appear in accountings and other financial reports. Oversee management of a charitable gift annuity fund, charitable remainder trusts, and pooled income fund, including regulatory compliance, oversight of outside administrator, and compliance with board-approved investment guidelines. Oversee operational issues such as deceased annuitants, quarterly payments by check and direct deposit. As needed on a case-by-case basis, apply knowledge of trusts and estates, critical thinking, and creative problem solving to protect the organization's financial interests by developing strategies to resolve estate disputes. Retain and manage oversight of outside counsel representing the ACLU in litigation. Serve as main point of contact to coordinate litigation with ACLU's General Counsel's office and ACLU affiliates.     About the Role The ACLU seeks a Summer Legal Intern in the Criminal Law Reform Project of the ACLU's National office in New York City. This position may be remote or hybrid. The Team: The Criminal Law Reform Project advocates for the constitutional and civil rights of those impacted by criminal legal systems. We use litigation and advocacy to confront systemic government conduct that fuels the carceral state and police abuse, and oppresses people based on race, class, and other characteristics. CLRP does this work because everyone suspected, accused, or convicted of a crime deserves dignity, fairness, and an opportunity to thrive. Ultimately, we seek to shift power to under-resourced communities and to elevate approaches to justice and safety that advance fundamental rights for all. The Project's current priorities are combatting police violence while bolstering individual rights against police authority; protecting the fundamental right to pretrial liberty; eliminating excessive conditions of post release supervision; and creating robust public defense systems to guarantee the constitutional right to counsel. CLRP works closely with the ACLU's National Political Advocacy Department, our Communications Department, and our affiliates to advance an affirmative vision for criminal legal system reform. What You'll Do: The intern will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience by working alongside the team and assisting in factual investigation, and legal research and writing to advance our litigation and integrated advocacy. Your Day to Day: Interns will support CLRP litigation work and integrated advocacy across our priority areas. Recent WRP work includes securing emergency relief to allow families to continue to access Head Start; fighting the mass eviction crisis and other unfair housing practices that disproportionately lock out women, particularly Black women, from housing opportunities; and challenging employment rules that penalize workers for their pregnancies or push them out of the paid workforce altogether. Doing gender justice work as part of the broad civil liberties and civil rights agenda of the ACLU reflects the reality that women are part of other social change movements and that we must work together if we are to achieve a just society for all.
