I started working for the Lexington Public Library when I was 19 years old. I intended to just work part time while in college. I worked there for 15 years until I moved to a different state. I loved it. I started shelving books and left as a librarian assistant having worked at 3 different locations.
As long as you can get along with your co-workers I don't think that there are any cons.
They had very good health insurance when I was there. You might know when new books from your favorite authors are coming out but to be honest if you are a fan of a particular author and really follow them, you are going to know when their books are coming out just about the same as the library staff.
I was an avid reader of many authors and several types of books. I like various subjects of nonfiction and mysteries, science fiction, fantasy, general fiction, etc. I tried to think of what kind of person I would like to help me find and check out books. I tried to be nice and answer questions or know as much as possible where or how to find the information that a person might need. I answered the questions and was willing to learn if I didn't know the answer.
I have been away from Lexington for a number of years and I'm afraid that I don't know the current CEO.
I like the diverse demographics. I went to the University of Ky and met people not only from many different states but also from a number of different countries. I enjoyed that.
