SWCC are extensively trained to execute high-risk warfare and reconnaissance missions in river and coastline settings. As a member of this tightly-knit community, you may:
Insert and extract SEALs and other Special Operations personnel from a variety of Naval Surface Warfare vessels
Collect important data about enemy military installations and shipping traffic in coastal areas
Assist other military and civilian law enforcement agencies
Operate and maintain ordnance systems, communications, electronics, small boats and other equipment associated with SWCC and other special operations missions
Perform direct action raids against enemy shipping and waterborne traffic
Provide rapid mobility in shallow water areas where larger ships cannot operate
Integrate with other U.S. Special Operations forces or within U.S. Navy carrier and expeditionary strike groups to accomplish operational tasks
Work Environment
Special Warfare Combat Crewman undertake missions the U.S. Navy keeps very quiet because of how vitally important they are. They are extensively trained to execute high-risk warfare and reconnaissance missions in river and coastline settings. SWCC operators may be deployed anywhere in the world and operate day or night in cold weather, desert, tropical or jungle environments. Though much of your time will be spent training or in the field on missions, you may work in an office on administration duties from time to time. As the Sailors who insert and extract Navy SEALs from classified locations around the world, they are true warriors-highly trained, disciplined and distinguished.
Training & Advancement
As a SWCC operator, you will undergo some of the most demanding physical and mental training in the world.
While at Recruit Training Command (RTC), also known as Boot Camp, you will take part in a rigorous physical examination and medical screening. Upon review of your entrance medical examinations, further physical screening tests will be given at RTC and at the Naval Special Warfare Center (SWCC School). Following completion of boot camp, you will begin specialized training including:
Naval Special Warfare Orientation (7 weeks)in Coronado, CA, for physical and psychological preparation for Basic SWCC Training (BCT)
Basic SWCC Training (7 weeks) in Coronado, CA, for mental and physical testing ultimately resulting in selection to continue training
Basic Crewmember Training (BCT) (7 weeks) in Coronado, CA
Crewman Qualification Training (CQT) (13 weeks) in Coronado, CA
Promotion opportunities are regularly available but competitive and based on performance.

Education Opportunities
Members of the Naval Special Warfare community have any number of unique opportunities to advance their education. Navy training provides everything from the fundamentals of explosive ordnance disposal, to knowledge of chemical and biological warfare, military tactics, deep-sea diving or a number of other tactical military procedures.
Beyond offering access to professional credentials and certifications, Navy training in the NSW field can translate to credit hours toward a bachelor's or associate degree through the American Council on Education.
You may also continue your education through undergraduate degree opportunities like the Navy College Program and Tuition Assistance and the Post-9/11 GI Bill.
Qualifications & Requirements
A high school degree or equivalent is required to become an Enlisted Navy SWCC operator, but the standards of qualification require the kind of mental and physical fortitude that few possess. For those making the cut, immense challenges and constant training are a way of life.
To qualify for SWCC training, you must:
Meet specific eyesight requirements: 20/40 best eye; 20/70 worst eye; correctable to 20/25. Ask your local Navy recruiter about color blindness.
Meet the minimum Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) score: AR+VE ≥105, MC ≥ 51 or AR + 2MK + GS = 210 and MC ≥ 51
Be less than 31 years old

SWCCs should possess an aptitude for mechanical skills, study habits, arithmetic and basic algebra, and ability to work with others as a team.
You should be in excellent physical condition and motivated to endure rigorous physiological demands. Strong swimming skills and the ability to withstand fatigue is essential. SWCCs must be able to work under stressful and hazardous conditions. Important personal traits also include self-assurance and self-confidence, high moral character and the willingness to follow orders.

Annual Base Salary for newly appointed CBPOs varies as follows:
GS-5 and GS-7 $40,332 - $109,952 per year
Locality pay varies by duty location.
Note: A fully trained CBPO is eligible for up to $45,000 in overtime pay in addition to the starting salary.
Grade level eligibility and salaries vary depending upon background, including experience and
education, and duty location of the opportunity. This is a career ladder position with a grade level
progression of GS-5, GS-7, GS-9, GS-11, and GS-12. You will be eligible for a promotion to the next higher
grade level (without re-applying) once you successfully complete 52 weeks in each grade level.
Promotions are at the discretion of the agency.

Qualifications:

Captain, M/V Ptarmigan Reports To: Portage Glacier Cruise Manager
The Captain of the M/V Ptarmigan is responsible for the safe and compliant operation of the vessel on Portage Lake in accordance with the United States Forest Service (USFS) contract, United States Coast Guard (USCG) regulations, and company standards. This role delivers exceptional guest service through professional vessel operation, narration, crew leadership, safety compliance, and coordination with engineering and shoreside teams. The Captain oversees vessel crew, ensures operational readiness, and supports all aspects of the daily cruise experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Vessel Operations & Compliance
Operate the M/V Ptarmigan in full compliance with the USFS contract and all USCG regulations.
Incorporate the Passenger Vessel Association (PVA) security plan into daily operations.
Provide guest narration when USFS interpretive services are not available.
Conduct required USCG drills, safety exercises, and maintain all associated records.
Ensure strict adherence to all safety, environmental, and reporting requirements.
Crew Leadership & Guest Experience
Provide strong leadership by setting goals, priorities, and expectations for crew and support staff.
Supervise the Boat Supervisor and Deckhands.
Interview, hire, train, and evaluate seasonal staff.
Ensure all retail accounting and ticket sales are reconciled and submitted daily.
Maintenance & Operational Support
Partner with the Engineer to diagnose, troubleshoot, and support repairs of vessel systems.
Coordinate daily start-up and shutdown of vessel and facility operations.
Assist with basic mechanical, electrical, and safety-related tasks as needed.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
Ability to perform all USCG-required safety and emergency duties.
Work is performed in a marine environment with variable weather conditions.
Ability to work long hours while maintaining a professional, calm, and positive presence.
Qualifications
Required
High School diploma or equivalent.
Valid USCG 100-Ton Inland Master license (minimum).
Must be 21 years of age or older.
Valid drivers license with clean driving record (MVR required).
Ability to work legally in the United States.
Pre-employment drug test required; participation in random drug testing pool.
Successful completion of a background check.
Ability to operate outboard motors.

Essential Functions
* Assist with the development and maintenance of environmental programs, procedures, policies, and projects for compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, statutes, and policies including, , the Clean Air Act (CAA), the Clean Water Act (CWA), the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), the Solid Waste Act (SWA), the Emergency Planning Community Right to know Act (EPCRA), and the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA).
* Assist with environmental permits and plan for facility permits.
* Assist with representing Chugach during facility inspections or other official inquiries by regulatory agencies regarding compliance with environmental regulations.
* Provide technical review of proposed regulations. Assist in the preparation of position papers, briefing papers, and presentations on regulations.
* Provide technical information, assistance, and review to staff regarding environmental programs, policies, and regulations to ensure the projects meet environmental compliance requirements.
* Assist with internal auditing for compliance with environmental regulations and facility operating permits.
* Investigate discharge and impact to the environment. Determine root cause of discharge and develop preventative measures to avoid future occurrences.
* Provide project management support for environmental impact and subject to environmental requirements.
* Gather data for environmental permit applications, project documents, reports, and certification statements.
* Assist with environmental studies including assessments, impact statements, site investigations, and current and historic spill investigations.

Work Environment

Minimum Qualifications and Experience
Education
Bachelor's degree in environmental, physical, biological, or natural science; engineering; planning; or natural resources, required.
Experience
Five (5) years of progressive work experience in the environmental field in the following areas: water quality, hazardous materials handling, solid waste, hazardous waste disposal, PCB compliance, and environmental analysis preparation. Experience in air quality, required. Experience in utility/union environment, preferred.
Substitution
Additional professional experience in a similarly complex role or related field may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
