Freehold Regional High School District company history timeline

1816

Schools in New Jersey were all private until 1816 when legislation establishing the "public" school concept was adopted.

1825

The Paradise Grove School was built in 1825.

1843

The East Freehold School was built in 1843 on Denise’s Corner on Dutch Lane Road.

1847

About the year 1847 teaching licenses began to be granted by town superintendents of education.

The last of the town's eight one-room schoolhouses, Thompson Grove School, built in 1847, is pictured above.

1850

The year was 1850 and many inhabitants of Freehold and their descendants were educated here.

1867

This concept began to change by the mid-1800. It took until 1867 to get the school system established.

1873

Beers 1873 Atlas of Monmouth County lists 28 business.

1878

A second school was built and was formerly known as the Dutch Lane school, it became known as the East Freehold School in 1878.

1888

The offices of the Township were established in Englishtown and remained there until 1888.

1901

Donovan was a student at the school starting in 1901.

1909

In 1909, a public school was built in Englishtown on the corner of Main and Pine Streets.

Today, the 1909 Main Street building serves as the Board of Education office.

1935

She then returned to the school and remained it’s teacher until 1935 when the school districts of Freehold Township were consolidated and all teaching was done from the new West Freehold School on Route 537.

1960

Great growth occurred between 1960 and the present day when developers bought farms and built houses.

1963

Manalapan and Englishtown formally joined as a regional elementary district in 1963.

1978

On the two hundredth anniversary of the Battle, in 1978, the State opened the 1,520 acre Monmouth Battlefield State Park.

1991

The first book, “Manalapan in Three Centuries” was written by James S. Brown in 1991.

2001

The six districts might be considered comparable to the six schools that comprised the district through 2001.

2017

As of January 2017, the district had 5085 students: 4811 from Manalapan and 274 from Englishtown.
