Mary Wade company history timeline
They soon found a benefactor in philanthropist Lucy Hall Boardman, who in 1897 donated $20,000 in the name of her sister – Mary P. Wade.
Mary worked for a number of years with her father Marion Wade at ServiceMaster, the company he founded in 1947.
However, the name “Mary Wade Home” wasn’t officially adopted until 1966 when it was decided that the name “The Home for the Friendless” had grown outdated.
To acknowledge this formidable woman a number of descendants of Mary Wade came together in the 1980's to produce a family history in the form of this book.
The profit from sales of this book were offered to the University of Wollongong in 1987 to be used as a prize for the most meritorious candidate undertaking an honours thesis in Australian History.
