Job Summary
As a member of the Engineering staff, the Mechanical Design Engineer will design, test and develop, and maintain products, options, and accessories following company and industry standards.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Design and specify product component parts, subassemblies, and complete assemblies (New Product Development).
Assist R&D personnel with set-up and laboratory testing to validate product performance.
Analyze and interpret test data and make product revisions as necessary to comply with performance and safety requirements.
Read, create, and maintain engineering documents such as exploded part assemblies, basic wiring and electrical schematics, and fabrication/machined detail drawings.
Use the ECN (Engineering Change Notice) process to effectively and efficiently manage change aimed toward product improvement.
Formulate product design specifications and update as required.
Support assembly line by analyzing and solving problems or obstacles that occur during production.
Help train production line and service departments for new builds and product improvements.
Productively function in a fast-paced Engineering department that works intimately with manufacturing plant, sales personnel, and Service/Training team.
Occasionally travel to assist with new applications, diagnostics, or trade shows.
Assist with maintaining applications/equipment and how they integrate with evolving model year truck manufacturer changes.
Other duties as assigned.
Up to 50% travel to customer sites expected throughout North America
Job Qualifications and Skills
MechanicalEngineering, Technologist or related degree preferred, but will consider relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.
Minimum 3 years experience in design, troubleshooting, and analysis of pneumatic, electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic controls and systems.
Experience with rotary screw compressors.
Good aptitude with hydraulic and mechanical driven equipment.
Experience with automotive power train - work trucks, large equipment, and PTO proficiency is a plus.
2D / 3D CAD drawing environment experience (AutoCAD and Inventor preferred).
Must be able to juggle priorities effectively.
Must have a positive attitude and function well with group-oriented tasks.
Experience with a document control system such as a Vault is a plus.

The Opportunity
The Manufacturing Engineer improves upon the manufacturing processes by reviewing upcoming production, reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports, and conferring with Engineering and Operations to implement operating procedures, and provide efficiency improvements.
This role will analyze current practices and develop business process improvements, implementing changes in workflows and structures to ensure continuous company performance. They assist in the selection of manufacturing methods, fabrication, and improvement of product designs, ensuring that cost efficiencies, quality and safety standards are achieved, and customer delivery deadlines are met.
Responsibilities
Perform liaison function between engineering and all manufacturing operations for any related issues, problems or improvements.
Provide oversight of the continuous improvement function within the location
Provide leadership and training to continuous improvement team, ensuring that they prioritize and complete their jobs successfully
Guide and manage employees by setting expectations, providing coaching and disciplinary actions when necessary
Read, interpret and propose changes to blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
Confer with Engineering and Production to implement operating procedures, standard assembly instructions, and provide efficiency improvements.
Investigate shortfalls, issues and complaints regarding manufacturing processes
Propose revisions to size, shape and arrangement of parts to create practical design drawings and participate in engineering and general design reviews as required.
Work with the production team to design and fabricate manufacturing aids and jigs.
Coordinates engineering changes to ensure instructions for production teams are clear and complied with.
Provides analysis on production performance (routings) to determine possible issues of meeting the desired plan.
Qualifications
5 years related MechanicalEngineering experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Certified LEAN Green Belt or Black Belt preferred
Strong background in continuous experience and process development in a manufacturing environment
Engineer and / or designer experience with metal fabrication, and mechanical equipment
Knowledge of welding standards (CWB / AWS) and techniques
Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing efficiency
Experience designing using 3D and / or 2D software, Inventor experience preferred
Proficient computer skills, including Windows, Word and Excel, Internet, CAD or other drafting programs

* A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in manufacturing engineering or related engineering field is preferred.
* Experience in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies is highly desired.
* Proficient in using CAD software such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks.
* Working knowledge of various types of manufacturing processes and industries.
* Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
* Ability to design and understand precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
* Strong communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly and effectively.
* Knowledge of manufacturing safety best practices.
* Experience in project management with proven leadership abilities.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
* Experience with inspection techniques and statistical analysis.
* Certification in ME or PE is a plus.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
