Job Summary:

In this role:
In this role you will have the opportunity work with engineer mentors in the design team and take ownership of portions of various projects. You will also work in coordination with other engineering disciplines and learn how a complete design package is developed. Work tasks will vary and require flexibility and desire for diversity in the engineering field. You will acquire time management, communication, and CAD drafting skills, as well as have the chance to apply engineering concepts.

You are currently enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering program at a four-year ABET university or college with preferred targeted graduation date within 1 year (preferred). Will consider interns who are graduating within 2 years, depending on our needs.

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineering Intern for Summer 2026. This internship provides hands-on experience in mechanical design, analysis, and optimization of machinery, working closely with our experienced engineering team.
Term: Summer 2026 (May-August)
Key Responsibilities:
Process QSM tasks by researching intent and requirements related to documentation changes and implementing them in SolidWorks models and drawings as approved by the Change Team.
Update CAD models and drawings for new machine construction based on feedback from Assembly, as approved by Product Development Engineering.
Assist machine designers by conducting purchased-part research, performing light design tasks, and organizing documentation.
Create detailed and assembly drawings of new SolidWorks models.
Participate in design reviews and project meetings to contribute ideas and feedback.
Assist in setting up product configurators for standardized designs.
Review and organize product documentation, ensuring that any residual changes are processed effectively.
Gather legacy drawings, convert them to PDF, and upload them to a shared web platform.
Prepare and present to management a summary of the experience gained during the internship.
Apply scientific methods and Lean principles to proactively identify and suggest improvements to manufacturing systems.
Identify equipment needs and process specifications; lead the implementation of these requirements into the production environment.
Act as a technical liaison between operations and design engineering to facilitate smooth communication.
Support the culture of continuous improvement through the Lean journey, assisting in the development and coaching of associates on Lean philosophies.
Qualifications:
2+ years of college coursework completed in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) is preferred.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and design skills.

Mechanical engineering internship job in Cottage Grove, WI
Job DescriptionDescription:
As an integral member of a cross-functional team, collaborate with Project Engineering, Industrial Design, and Factory Engineering to design and develop new fitness products. Perform a variety of technical assignments to support various projects through the Innovation and New Product Development (NPD) processes. Prepare CAD models and drawings for various components and assemblies. Ensure compliance with product specifications, internal and external standards, and testing requirements. Complete document control tasks relating to the creation, maintenance, organization and improvement of technical related documentation. This is a non-supervisory position.
Responsibilities:
Personnel:
· Work with Design Engineers, Industrial Design, Factory Engineer, and other members of the product development team to translate customer requirements into engineering product specifications.
· Frequent communication with North America and Asia-based project team members to ensure alignment on technical issues and project deliverables.
Product Development:
· Create CAD models and drawings for components and assemblies for products from prototype phases through production.
· Hold technical design reviews and other engineering meetings to support product development
· Develop and maintain estimated tooling/cost estimates
· Develop and maintain a structured BOM (Bill Of Materials)
· Coordinate with factory engineering to ensure the product is manufacturable and meets the costing requirements defined in the product specification
· Determine and maximize container utilization and package size
· Participate in DFMEAs, complete or support strength and fatigue analysis of all design proposals to ensure the product meets the design requirements. Support testing to validate strength and fatigue analysis.
· Meets all project milestones and deadlines
Production Transition support:
· Review quality and inspection data, perform product sample reviews and make design decisions, support value-add / value-engineer opportunities for cost and manufacturing efficiency
· Support and troubleshoot the introduction of new projects into new product development (NPD), developing functional requirements and test plans.
· Assist Asia-based engineering and factory manufacturing teams on design requirements
Marginal Job Functions:

Requirements:
Education:
· Two-year technical degree or the equivalent of least 5 years of experience
Experience:
· 7+ years of design experience
· Experience w/ plastic injection molding
· Experience designing consumer products preferred
Other Requirements:
· Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks)
· Strong mechanical aptitude, with hobbies or projects showcasing your passion for design
· Word, Excel, PowerPoint
· Ability and willingness to travel both internationally and domestically preferred
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Ability to work well with numerous diverse groups and individuals
