The Mid-level Mechanical Engineer serves to work in a fast-paced multi-discipline team environment. The position responsibilities primarily are focused on the design of mechanical systems for new facilities, additions, and renovation projects. This will require providing technical leadership for the creation of construction drawings and specifications, existing system studies and master planning efforts. Qualified candidates will meet with clients, project teams, code officials, contractors, and others to address mechanical issues to develop effective working relationships. The project clientele includes K-12 Education, Higher Education, Commercial, Health Care, Science and Technology, municipal and institutional Facilities. This role is perfect for someone interested in mentoring our junior staff and move into Senior leadership!
In this role, you will:
Develop HVAC system designs of a given project based on scope of work and/or client RFPs.
Provide engineering design, evaluation, and planning of mechanical systems for a variety of market types.
Perform Load/Energy calculations with software such as Trace 700, IES and similar programs.
Develop reports/studies.
Write/edit project specifications.
Prepare detailed design documents, reports, and studies.
Conduct existing building and documentation of existing HVAC systems.
Provide construction administration services.
We use Revit, but if you don't have experience, we will train you!

What We're Looking For

In this role you will get to:
Design custom power distribution equipment following UL 1008, UL 508, UL 891 and UL 1558 standards.
Support and lead the custom quoting and order process, ensuring technical feasibility, manufacturability, and compliance with UL standards and customer specifications.
Provide mechanical engineering expertise across a wide range of Trystar products, ensuring custom designs align with best practice and production capabilities.
Refine and document quoting processes to improve efficiency and reduce engineering cycle time for custom orders.
Collaborate with Sales, offering owners, application engineers, and manufacturing to bridge the gap between customer requirements and practical, buildable solutions.
Identify common customizations and work toward streamlining configurations to improve quoting speed and accuracy.
Drive impact beyond individual contributions by enabling others to move faster, make better decisions, and deliver higher-quality work.
Act as a technical mentor to engineers and sales team members, helping improve internal understanding of mechanical design principles and complex power distribution solutions.
Continuously improve processes to reduce rework, enhance design efficiency, and improve order accuracy.
Job Requirements:
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
7+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably for custom-engineered power distribution and electromechanical system design.
Proficiency with mechanical design software such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
Ability to interpret customer specifications and site requirements to create accurate mechanical solutions.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to balance customer customization with standardization for efficiency.
Experience defining mechanical specifications and component layout for power distribution offerings including switchgear, switchboards, transfer switches, load banks, and Docking stations.
Experience with creation of detailed technical product documentation to support product manufacturing, functional testing, certification testing, and customer requests.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to design accuracy.
Curiosity and initiative to explore new technologies, solve problems independently, and continuously improve designs and processes.
Understanding and application of mechanical design best practice, including safety, manufacturability, and compliance with relevant codes and standards.
Ability to identify inefficiencies and drive continuous improvement in engineering workflows, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration.
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Experience improving engineering efficiency through automation, modularization, or process standardization.
ERP, PLM, and Engineering Vault experience for managing mechanical design documentation and BOM.
Familiarity with standards such as UL 1008, UL 508, UL 891 and UL 1558.
Project management experience, including the ability to lead cross-functional teams, track project timelines, and ensure deliverables are met on schedule.
Strong leadership skills, with a proven ability to mentor engineers and collaborate across multiple departments.
Experience leading or contributing to continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., Kaizen events, process audits, design standardization)
Familiarity with design for reliability, design for testability, design for manufacturability (DFM), and Design for Safety (DFS)
Exposure to root cause analysis and corrective action processes related to mechanical design or production issues.
Interest in emerging technologies in power distribution, energy storage, or smart grid systems.
Proven ability to act as a technical multiplier - improving team velocity through reusable tools, documentation, or mentoring.
Experience creating frameworks, templates, or automations that reduce repetitive work and improve consistency across engineering teams.
