UPMC Jameson, located in New Castle, PA. is seeking a talented Medical Lab Technician or Medical Laboratory Scientist to join their team! We are looking for individuals who are interested in working full-time rotating evenings and night shift hours, with rotating weekend and holiday coverage responsibilities required.
Applicants will be placed into the appropriate job title and salary based on their individual experience and education.
The Medical Lab Technician's salary range: $21.48-$31.19 per hour.
The Medical Laboratory Scientist's salary range: $26.97-$35.51per hour.
This position is also eligible for a generous sign-on bonus!
Sign-On Bonus Details:
Medical Laboratory Technician: $10,000 for a two-year work commitment
Medical Laboratory Scientist: $15,000 for a two-year work commitment
MEDICAL LAB TECHNICIAN (MLT)
Responsibilities:
+ Interacts with all laboratory customers professionally. Responds to telephone inquiries courteously and in a timely manner. Practices pleasant communications both internally and externally.
+ Meets established testing protocols for precision and accuracy in a timely and efficient manner. Recognizes critical, abnormal and unacceptable test results and follows-up according to established protocols.
+ Independently performs Moderately Complex, or Waived tests (qualitative and quantitative). Performs High Complexity testing only with the oversight of a Medical Technologist, or with result review by a Supervisor or Manager.
+ Demonstrates dependability, reliability, and independent judgment. Recognizes priorities to accommodate department needs and acceptance of appropriate authority.
+ Performs and documents Quality Control according to established protocols. Informs supervisory personnel and/or pathologists of any unusual or problematic incidents.
+ Assists with the training and orienting of new employees, students and residents, using established competency and workstation operational guidelines.
+ Monitors and maintains supplies for those functions for which the position is responsible; uses materials and reagents in a cost-effective manner.
+ Processes specimens for analysis. Enters accurate patient demographic information and laboratory test orders into the laboratory information system, while ascertaining adequacy of patient information as well as sample integrity.
+ Honors confidentiality of patient information. Follows all compliance guidelines.
+ Adheres to all established laboratory and hospital policies, procedures, methods, quality assurance, proficiency testing, and personnel policies.
+ Follows all biohazard, chemical, and sharps safety guidelines. Maintains a safe work environment.
+ Maintains instruments following procedural calibrations, quality control, and daily maintenance and troubleshooting when necessary.
MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENTIST
Responsibilities:
+ Conduct, direct or assist with test development and methodology/equipment evaluation, selection and implementation.
+ Recognize critical, abnormal and unacceptable test results and follow-up according to established protocols. Recognize factors that affect measurements and results and initiate the necessary corrective action according to established protocols. Identify problems with instrumentation, methodology, specimens, supplies, or results and take action as outlined in predetermined protocols.
+ Operate and maintain equipment within the scope of training utilizing defined schedules and written instructions to perform quality control checks, preventive maintenance, and calibration. Perform minor repairs. Use reagents and supplies in a cost-effective manner; monitor and maintain an appropriate supply inventory.
+ Train and orient new employees, students and residents, as applicable and as assigned.
+ All duties inclusive of an MLT (Medical Laboratory technician), and:
+ Interact with all laboratory customers courteously and professionally; respond to telephone inquiries in a timely manner.
+ Maintain in-depth knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments and their interrelationships as well as physiological conditions affecting test results.
+ Adhere to established laboratory and hospital policies in areas of procedures, methods, quality control, quality assurance, safety, compliance and personnel policies. Follow established procedures for the collection (including phlebotomy, as required) and processing of specimens for analysis including the appropriateness and stability of the sample. Perform qualitative and quantitative analytical procedures according to established protocols with precision and accuracy in a timely and efficient manner.
+ Assume responsibility for first-line supervision of the section/department on a temporary basis as delegated.
+ Performs High Complexity Testing (as defined by PA DOH) without direct supervision.

Responsibilities:
* Conduct, direct or assist with test development and methodology/equipment evaluation, selection and implementation.
* Recognize critical, abnormal and unacceptable test results and follow-up according to established protocols. Recognize factors that affect measurements and results and initiate the necessary corrective action according to established protocols. Identify problems with instrumentation, methodology, specimens, supplies, or results and take action as outlined in predetermined protocols.
* Operate and maintain equipment within the scope of training utilizing defined schedules and written instructions to perform quality control checks, preventive maintenance, and calibration. Perform minor repairs. Use reagents and supplies in a cost-effective manner; monitor and maintain an appropriate supply inventory.
* Train and orient new employees, students and residents, as applicable and as assigned.
* All duties inclusive of an MLT (Medical Laboratory technician), and:
* Interact with all laboratory customers courteously and professionally; respond to telephone inquiries in a timely manner.
* Maintain in-depth knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments and their interrelationships as well as physiological conditions affecting test results.
* Adhere to established laboratory and hospital policies in areas of procedures, methods, quality control, quality assurance, safety, compliance and personnel policies. Follow established procedures for the collection (including phlebotomy, as required) and processing of specimens for analysis including the appropriateness and stability of the sample. Qualifications:

JOB SUMMARY
The Laboratory Sample Assistant serves as a front-line contact to receive and process samples arriving to the laboratory and successfully providing processed samples to laboratory personnel for timely analysis. Through gaining a thorough understanding of our clients' needs and effectively coordinating internal efforts, they ensure Microbac is positioned to deliver timely and accurate test results. Essential Functions:
* Gain a thorough understanding of client needs; function as the liaison between the client, Customer Relationship account management team, and our laboratory staff teams; Troubleshoot and head off problems, preventing them from adversely affecting the client.
* Manage the logistics of client projects, ensuring client needs are met in a timely and cost-effective manner, while ensuring the quality of work completed and reported meets or exceeds pre-determined quality standards.

**JOB SUMMARY:**
The Senior Sensory Lab Coordinator leads the organization, implementation, and maintenance of Sensory Lab programs and documentation, creating a safe and efficient workspace in which team members can complete sensory tests with excellence. This individual also oversees sample management and is the main point of contact for Sensory Technicians and Specialists during sensory test execution. **PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:**
+ Responsible for sensory laboratory:
+ Implement good laboratory practices and safe laboratory behavior, ensuring compliance with all relevant Nestlé standards.
+ Implement and monitor maintenance programs to ensure sensory equipment and facilities are clean, organized, operational, and properly calibrated.
+ Maintain inventory of sensory lab materials, and order supplies as needed to ensure sensory lab operational continuity.
+ Maintain and create relevant documentation for sensory lab procedures and best practices.
+ Ensure adequate utilization of sensory lab operational budget
+ Assist Sensory & Product Experience Manager in driving initiatives to evolve sensory lab practices.

- Assist Sensory Specialists with test creation in sensory software and launch respective IT sessions.
- Coordinate panel instructions with Sensory Specialists and Technicians before, during, and after sensory studies.
- Assist Specialists with sensory training, sensory glossary development, and other sensory related activities as required.
- Assist Sensory Specialists with the coordination and execution of training activities for employees.
- Assist Sensory Panel Management:
- Work closely with internal and external cross-functional teams to facilitate contractor recruitment activities and agency management.
- Work with IT to set up equipment for new sensory panelists.
- Oversee contractor time management to ensure adequate resource allocation.
- Prepare monthly reports on resource utilization for services provided to relevant business partners.
**JOB QUALIFICATIONS** (Education, Experience, and Knowledge):
+ Bachelor's degree in food science or related field required
+ College level Sensory Science coursework required.
+ At least 2 years of experience in a laboratory environment is preferred either in an academic or professional setting. Sensory lab experience is a plus.
+ Software knowledge: Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook. Proficiency in sensory software is a plus.
