1972 Tax credit innovation TCB pioneers the use of tax-benefit syndication with a local CDC to finance Villa Victoria, a $28 million affordable housing community for 680 Boston families.
The New Community School opened with 24 students at St Stephen’s Church in 1974.
Julia Ann Greenwood, chair of the LF Department and newly appointed Director of Instruction, was asked to step in as Acting Head to begin the 1977-78 school year.
After a national search the trustees concluded that the best leader for the school was right here and in the spring of 1978 Julia Ann became Head of the School.
Classes opened on our new campus in September 1981, with 54 students.

2010 Focus on recovery TCB wins a $78 million HUD Neighborhood Stabilization 2 grant to stabilize communities impacted by the foreclosure crisis.
2011 Faith-based partnership TCB breaks ground with a faith-based partner on Charlesview Residences, a 340-unit mixed-income development in Boston.
In 2012, Julia Ann Greenwood retired as Head of School, having held the position for 34 years.
2012 Bringing mission to scale The TCB portfolio of owned and operated housing reaches 10,000 apartments.
The first TNCS 5th graders arrived on campus in the Fall of 2014, and the school year began with 135 students, the largest in the school’s history.
2014 Celebrating 50 years TCB marks its 50th anniversary and adopts a five-year strategic plan to strengthen communities and build access to opportunity in 90 neighborhoods across 14 states and Washington, D.C.
