Position Summary
Reporting to the department chair and the college business manager, this position provides administrative support to the department chair and faculty within the Electrical Engineering Department and to the Biomedical Engineering program director and faculty; is responsible for department and program purchasing and monitoring of budget; provides grant and award support to faculty, and manages the undergraduate/graduate student office for the Electrical Engineering department and Biomedical Engineering program.
The individual in this position will serve as a hiring manager and initiate the hiring process for all department and program hiring, support committees and the accreditation process, as well as assist with financial management and compliance. This is an on-campus, student-facing position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Administrative Support & Office Operations - 30%
* Maintain chair's calendar related to faculty, student, and committee needs.
* Open and review incoming mail responding to correspondence on behalf of the chair and program director as appropriate; Send emails on behalf of the chair and program director, when appropriate.
* Draft memos and ensure documents are prepared correctly and needed signatures are gathered.
* Prepare forms for the department chair's approval and signature, and for program director's approval and signature.
* Maintain confidential files for the department including Human Resource, student, and purchasing records, with confidentiality according to FERPA and NIU record retention policies.
* Draft agenda, attend meetings, take minutes, and provide draft minutes report for review and approval.
* Schedule meetings with faculty and staff as needed.
* Conducts the department's annual property control inventory verification.
* Creates and processes payroll for hourly and salaried personnel.
* Assist in developing semester course schedules.
* Submit course registration documents, review final documents for publication in MyNIU and notify faculty of course offerings.
* Provide past textbook usage to faculty to assist with quantity calculations and order textbooks for courses.
* Assist the Chair and faculty with data retrieval using queries.
Budget & Financial Administrative Support - 20%
* Order supplies, equipment, and materials as needed following University Procurement policies including but not limited to check requests, journals, purchase requisitions, and travel vouchers.
* Hold a commercial card and allocate transactions and maintain records per commercial card policies.
* Monitor departmental cost centers budgets and expenditures, prepare and provide financial reports, and report balances and variances to the chair, resolve discrepancies with the College business office.
* Assist the chair and program director with budget development as needed.
Manage Student Services Office - 15%
* Direct students to central advising office or faculty for academic advisement, and to other available campus resources as needed.
* Assist students with registration of classes, completion of forms, remove advising holds, obtaining necessary permits, ensure prerequisites are met and override enrollment as needed.
* Assist faculty with evaluation of transfers and help students with paperwork to ensure a successful transfer process.
* Compile advising rosters and establish schedules in consultation with faculty, department chair, and program director.
* Work closely with the Graduate School to review students' academic requirement reports and follow up with student inquiries to ensure students are on track for graduation.
* Maintain student academic records with confidentiality according to FERPA and NIU record retention policies.
* Prepare department and program teaching assistant evaluation program, gather results, disseminate results to students and maintain confidential files.
* Distribute job opportunities to department and program students.
* Create and post faculty office hour and course schedule tables and lab emergency contacts where appropriate.
Personnel Hiring & Training - 15%
* Monitor the positions within the department; Initiates and prepares all personnel paperwork and PeopleAdmin entry for tenured and tenure-track faculty members, full-time and part-time instructors, graduate assistant support staffing, hiring, and compensation of personnel serving department programs.
* Ensure paperwork complies with NIU HR and affirmative action policies.
* Prepare all required graduate assistant appointment forms: offer letter, acknowledgement of acceptance letter, employment forms, immigration control compliance form, etc.
* Maintain confidential personnel files of all faculty, staff, graduate assistants, and student workers with confidentiality and according to NIU record retention policies.
* Preparation of all PeopleSoft forms pertaining to requests for hiring, affirmative action, and personnel appointment forms.
* Enter Additional Pay forms as needed.
* Assist in search activities and related correspondence, and records; Serve as search committee member, as requested, or needed.
* Organize candidate interviews related to all aspects of the interview process.
* Assist new hires with moving reimbursement, insurance information, university and department orientation, explanation of office procedures and any other tasks to assure a smooth transition for the new faculty or staff member.
* Train student workers, graduate assistants, and extra help employees on policies and procedures; Supervise assigned student workers and/or graduate assistants to assist with data collection for program evaluation and accreditation, and other appropriate tasks, as assigned.
Grants & Award Administration Support - 10%
* Assist faculty with management of sponsored grants, startup funding, and intramural awards include Research and Artistry (R&A) funding.
* Communicate with Sponsored Programs Administration and the Division of Research and Innovation Partnerships on behalf of faculty to ensure grants and awards are within budget and reports are submitted timely.
* Manage grants and award expenditures.
* Make purchases and hire personnel in accordance with grant and awards budgets.
Accreditation & Committee Support - 5%
* Notify the curriculum committee chair and department chair when curriculum problems are encountered.
* Oversee changes to the department's catalog entries and ensure accuracy when submitting changes.
* Prepare ballots and materials for committee elections.
* Prepare promotion and tenure documentation.
* Gather necessary materials needed for ABET files and accreditation process.
* Assist the Chair in creating and conducting course surveys as well as exit, graduate alumni, and employer survey, as needed.
* Assist the Chair in collecting and organizing course syllabi and accreditation data.
Other Related Duties - 5%
* Perform other related duties as assigned.

The Department of English at Northern Illinois University (NIU) is creating a pool posting for anticipated openings as it seeks full-time or part-time instructors to teach face-to-face classes in the first-year composition program. The load for full-time instructors is usually 12 credit hours per semester and would normally include the first and second semester first-year writing requirements, as well as potential to teach developmental writing. This position has occasional opportunities to teach upper-level classes as well-depending on candidates' specializations. The appointment is for up to one year subject to program needs but is renewable. Instructors are on continuing contracts after five (5) years of positive programmatic reviews and continued program need. NIU draws its predominately first-generation students and transfers from the cities of Chicago and Rockford, their suburbs, and the rural areas of the region.

Job Description:
Student Career Advising and Support:
* Provide individualized career coaching to CBT students on job search strategies, resume and cover letter development, interview preparation appropriate to their field of study, and networking.
* Conduct mock interviews, resume reviews, and career development workshops tailored to careers in Business (including General Management, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Data Analytics, Finance, Accounting) and Technology (including Computer Science, Cyber Security, Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence).
* Provide guidance on career opportunities, progression paths, job search strategies and salary negotiations.
* Develop and implement outreach strategies to increase student engagement in Career Bridge events and services, including job fairs, employer panels, and business and technology specific networking sessions.
Program Development and Implementation:
* Collaborate with faculty and staff to identify and support student career development needs including classroom presentation or workshops on career development topics.

Employer Relations:
* Develop, implement, and evaluate a structured recruitment plan to create internship and employment opportunities for CBT students and graduates, including on-campus career fairs, networking events, and career-related workshops.
* Network with employers, university administration, faculty, staff, students, and alumni to promote career development programs and foster collaborative relationships.
* Attend relevant networking functions and industry events to build employer contacts and promote CBT's programs and initiatives.

Position Summary
The Director of Law School Academic Success and Bar Programs is responsible for the academic support programs for College of Law students from admission through bar passage, including support for students in a future potential part-time program. The College of Law's philosophy is that bar success is achieved through a comprehensive program of academic support beginning at admission. As a small law school with a strong commitment to its students, the Director of Law School Academic Success and Bar Programs will often work with students who are struggling with bar passage through multiple attempts.
The ASP Director of Law School Academic Success and Bar Programs is a member of the full-time faculty voting on most matters, except for Promotion and Tenure and tenure-track hires. The ASP Director of Law School Academic Success and Bar Programs is supported in professional development including participation in the ASP and the Legal Writing communities.
There are no publication requirements tied to retention. At the completion of the initial one-year contract term, the Director will be eligible for two additional one-year contract terms, for a total of three one-year contract terms, upon a satisfactory review of their performance. At the conclusion of the third one-year contract term, the Director will be eligible for a five-year, presumptively renewable contract upon a satisfactory review of their performance. Instructors attend faculty meetings, vote on curriculum and other academic matters, and serve on committees. They are integral contributors to our law school community. Instructors have service and professional development requirements that may be fulfilled, for example, by presenting at conferences and serving on law school and university committees and as faculty advisor to student organizations. All faculty are allocated travel funds for the year to attend conferences.
This is a twelve-month contract position as a non-union Instructor in the College of Law.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The College of Law's Academic Success Program (ASP) is among just a few ASPs that are intentionally combined with the Legal Writing Program. In addition to academic success responsibilities, the Director of Law School Academic Success and Bar Programs is a regularly rostered instructor in the Legal Writing program. All Legal Writing instructors, including the rotating Legal Writing Director, are also Academic Success Instructors. Because of the joint nature of the program, it is imperative that the Director of Law School Academic Success and Bar Programs be able to work collaboratively with the Legal Writing Instructors.
The Director of Law School Academic Success and Bar Programs must have an in-depth understanding of the skills law students need to be successful in both law school and on the bar examination. The Director must develop and maintain substantial knowledge about academic support, including but not limited to, notetaking, outlining, case briefing, exam writing, etc., bar preparation, bar preparation strategies, and the bar exam, including the UBE and the NextGen exam. The Director will work closely with the administration, faculty, and, most importantly, with College of Law students, implementing and evaluating the ASP/Bar programs.
Programmatic Planning -
* Develop, implement, and assess short and long-term goals for the Academic Success and Bar Preparation programs in collaboration with the Dean, Associate Deans and Faculty.
* Develop, implement, and assess existing and new curricular programming for the ASP and Bar Prep programs in collaboration with the Dean, Associate Deans, and Faculty.
* Develop, implement, and assess the Legal Writing Curriculum in collaboration with the Dean, Associate Deans, and Legal Writing Faculty.
Assessment -
* Assess the success of the academic success and bar support programs through data collection and analysis and through collaboration with the Associate Dean for Student Affairs and the Deans and Faculty.
* Participate as needed and directed in institutional assessment programs, including, but not limited to ABA reports, NIU assessment programs, COL assessment programs, AALS reports, and other independent or external studies, etc.
Teaching and Other Program Delivery -
* Implement the day-to-day Academic Success and Bar Preparation programs in cooperation with deans and faculty, including organizing and delivering ASP oriented seminars, classes, orientations, and other sessions as needed to assist students in reaching their full potential. Programs may include but are not limited to:
* Individual student study skill and exam preparation (one to one critique and review of written work).
* One-on-one academic counseling and voluntary advising meetings with 1L, 2L, and 3L students.
* Teach a four to six-hour regular course load each semester potentially consisting of two or more of the following courses: Legal Methods, Legal Writing I, Legal Writing II, Advanced -Legal Analysis: Skills and Strategies, Bar Fundamentals, or other courses as identified including overseeing or teaching bar preparation courses such as Bar Fundamentals
* Collaborate with the Legal Writing faculty to provide a COL pre-orientation (currently five-days) orientation for a select group of students.
* Develop, deliver and assess materials for this orientation and assess its effectiveness.
Academic Success Programs -
* Plan/develop, schedule and supervise the delivery of 1L, 2L, and 3L Academic Success services through the Academic Success Program including hiring, training, and supervising ASP Graduate Assistant tutors, if applicable, or training and coordinating with an assistant director, if applicable, and planning and delivering seminars or other sessions, and coordinating with other faculty as needed:
* Coordinate with the Associate Dean for Student Affairs to identify and assist first, second, and third-year students on academic probation or at academic risk.
* One-on-one tutoring for 1L, 2L, and 3L students as needed.
* Provide individual instruction for third and fourth-semester students selected to participate in upper-level Academic Success Programs.
* Provide individual instruction to students selected to participate in 1L exam-writing seminars.
Bar Programs -
* Assist in the planning, development, and delivery of Bar programs for upper-level students and alumni.
* Deliver winter and summer bar supplement courses for both first-time takers and retakers in coordination with doctrinal faculty if possible.
* Offer and deliver one-on-one writing and other skills critique and review for students studying for the bar examination during both the February and July study periods.

Duties & Responsibilities
* Training Facilitation
Facilitating a combination of in-person, virtual, and on-demand trainings based on approved DCFS caregiver curricula. Facilitating all three formats, adapting to varying training assignments depending on demand. Facilitate a training effectively in English and/or Spanish depending on the participants or the training assignment. Travel for in-person trainings is required at times. * Data Management and Administrative Support

Position Summary
The Department of World Languages and Cultures in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Northern Illinois University (NIU), invites applications for instructor positions to create a pool for advance and short notice hiring. These will be part or full-time temporary instructor positions. Start dates vary based on programmatic needs.
We are seeking potential candidates to offer high-quality teaching in American Sign Language, French, German, Japanese, or Spanish who fully embrace NIU's mission of providing opportunity to a diverse student body. Candidates must demonstrate native or near-native fluency in the target language and should practice current foreign language teaching methodologies centered on a communicative approach.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching load will be no more than 12 credit hours during fall semester, no more than 12 credit hours during spring semester; other related duties may be assigned.
Minimum Required Qualifications
* Master's degree in the target language
* Expertise or evident potential for quality teaching in the target language at the undergraduate level.
