This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys owning projects end-to-end, working directly with customers, and serving as the technical bridge between engineering, manufacturing, and operations. You'll take responsibility for projects once they transition from the sales/application phase and remain accountable through design validation, fabrication support, and shipment. Job Summary: The Facilities Engineer is responsible for overseeing the maintenance operations within a heavy manufacturing facility. This position ensures the efficiency and reliability of machinery, systems, utilities, and infrastructure by leading a team of maintenance technicians. The role involves coordinating preventive maintenance, managing critical spare parts inventory, troubleshooting equipment, directing contractors, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. The Facilities Engineer plays a key role in minimizing downtime and maximizing plant performance by maintaining a safe, compliant, and cost-effective environment. Supervisory Responsibilities: • Supervise and lead a team of maintenance technicians, providing guidance, training, and performance management. • Ensure maintenance activities are completed efficiently, safely, and in alignment with production schedules. Duties/Responsibilities: • Equipment Reliability: Oversee preventive and predictive maintenance programs to minimize unplanned downtime and ensure the reliability of equipment. • Team Leadership: Lead and support the maintenance team in executing day-to-day tasks, ensuring high performance, safety, and compliance with maintenance schedules. • Inventory Management: Maintain critical spare parts inventory to ensure rapid response to equipment failures. • Maintenance Scheduling: Plan and coordinate maintenance activities with production and engineering teams to minimize disruptions and downtime. • Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives using data, root cause analysis, and best practices to optimize equipment performance and plant efficiency. • Safety Compliance: Implement and enforce safety protocols to comply with OSHA, environmental, and facility-specific regulations. • Vendor and Contractor Management: Oversee vendors and contractors for outsourced maintenance, repairs, and equipment installations, ensuring high-quality services and timely delivery. • Capital Projects: Support and manage capital improvement projects, such as equipment upgrades, facility expansions, and infrastructure improvements. • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and equipment histories using CMMS or similar systems to ensure compliance and track performance. Required Skills/Abilities: • Strong technical knowledge in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, including troubleshooting and repairs. • Expertise in preventive and predictive maintenance programs and root cause failure analysis. • Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) for tracking work orders, PMs, and asset histories. • Ability to lead and motivate teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. • Experience with regulatory compliance (OSHA, EPA, NFPA) and safety standards. • Knowledge of continuous improvement practices such as TPM, Kaizen, 5S, and Lean Manufacturing. • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Education and Experience: Required: • 5+ years of maintenance experience in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment (e.g., steel, automotive, paper, chemical). • 2+ years in a supervisory or lead role, with experience managing maintenance teams and coordinating shift operations. • Hands-on experience with mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, including troubleshooting and repairs. • Familiarity with regulatory safety standards (OSHA, EPA, NFPA). • Experience with capital projects, equipment installations, or facility upgrades is a plus. Preferred Education: • Associate's or bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or a related technical field. • Technical school or trade program graduates with substantial field experience are also considered.
