Qualifications

Central Design - Electrical/I&C Design Engineer
Southern Nuclear Operating Company's (SNC) Fleet Central Design Organization is responsible for production of capital project designs, either in-house or with the assistance of the Architect Engineers (AEs). The organization has four discipline-oriented groups (Mechanical/Civil, Electrical/I&C/Digital, Cyber Security Engineering, and Procurement Engineering) responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
Provide technical oversight and approval of design products generated by the Central Design Organization, AEs, and other outside engineering resources. These products will typically be those funded by the Capital budget as O&M- funded modifications will be managed by the Site Design organization.
Ensure appropriate design interface controls are in place between organizations performing engineering work affecting plant design.
Provide support and perform activities for I&C design activities, EMI/RFI evaluations, and Digital and Software design activities.
Provide ownership and oversight responsibility for the Setpoint Control Program.
Promote fleet common design processes and implementation.
Monitor the maintenance of design basis and configuration management control.
Monitor the technical adequacy of design within the fleet and from vendors.
This posting is to fill a position for an I&C Design Engineer with experience performing Engineering Analysis and Design. The successful candidate will become a member of the SNC Fleet Design Electrical and Digital/I&C Engineering team.
Position Duties include and not limited to:
Development of Engineering Analysis to support Electrical Solutions.
Development of equipment/system specifications and requirements and perform bid evaluations and reviews for conformance.
Developing site specific or fleet wide design change packages to support capital projects.
Supporting Design Implementation of modifications.
Monitoring of new technology advances for application and incorporation into Fleet Strategic planning
Remote or onsite Emergent equipment troubleshooting support.
Provide oversight for the development and implementation of power system analysis products, including ensuring those products are properly used at the sites.
Managing and controlling I&C plant design software and products.
Promote standard approaches and innovation for Electrical / I&C Design and analysis processes for the SNC Fleet.
Participate in industry initiatives to develop and maintain analysis methodologies for organizational proficiencies.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Educational Requirements
Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university is required.
PE license is preferred but not required.
Experience Requirements
Minimum 3 years of Electrical or Digital/I&C engineering experience is preferred.
Design Modifications experience is preferred.
Experience in commercial nuclear power is preferred.
An understanding of power flow concepts and distribution system impacts regarding motor-starting, short-circuit, and dynamic responses are preferred. Experience with ETAP is also preferred.
Knowledge and experience with network infrastructure, modern operating systems, database applications, web applications and other computing technologies is preferred.
An understanding of industrial control system networks (e.g., ICS, PLC, DPC, and SCADA) is preferred.
Experience leading small teams or initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
U.S. citizen between the ages of 19 and 29. Exceptions may be possible up to age 40.
Graduate or current student pursuing a B.A., B.S. or M.S. (preferably major in mathematics, engineering, physics, chemistry or other technical areas).
Those still in school may apply as early as 18 months from completion of an undergraduate degree for Naval Reactors Engineers.
Applicants may also join the NUPOC program as early as 12 months from completion of a master's degree.
Additional academic requirements include:
Completed one academic year of calculus
Completed one academic year of calculus-based physics
A competitive GPA and a minimum grade of "B" in all technical courses
