Essential Duties and Responsibilities: · Operate various types and sizes of power construction equipment such as dozers, tractors, scrapers, loaders, motor graders to excavate, move dirt and grade jobsite · Operate self-propelled steel-wheeled, rubber tired, vibrator, segmented or other type roller to compact subgrade. · Follow all company safety policies including taking specific action to avoid other workers, equipment, potential obstructions · Operate equipment in an efficient manner and follow instructions of on-site management · Follow all equipment monitoring and maintenance requirements · Move and/or load material utilizing dozers, excavators, loaders etc. · Must be capable and willing to maintain/grease equipment · Must be willing to complete manual labor when not operating equipment · Conduct work with 100% integrity and professionalism Education and/or Work Experience Requirements: · High school diploma or equivalent · Minimum two (2) years construction experience · Ability to receive written or oral instructions · Establish and maintain effective working relationship with office and field personnel · Must be committed to contributing to a culture of safety, looking out for yourself and others Physical Requirements: · Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials. · Work long shifts with non-standard break times · Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements. · Must have good hand-eye coordination, quick reaction times. · Able to work in confined or enclosed spaces · Able to sit for long periods of time · Able to wear a hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, and safety-toed boots. · Able to walk moderate distances to reach work area (1/2 mile or more) · Able to Enter the cab of a vehicle that is 3.5 feet (or more) off the ground · Able to sit in the operator's seat of equipment and safely reach all pedals, switches, levers, buttons, etc. required to safely operate the equipment (if authorized for that piece of equipment) · Capable of sitting in the operator's seat of equipment and have an adequate field of vision of all instruments, gauges, warning lights, as well as an acceptable field of vision out of the windows and/or mirrors (if authorized for that piece of equipment) · Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards. · Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards · Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone

This is responsible work driving heavy-duty trucks and operating construction/maintenance equipment. Nature of Work: Employees in this class are responsible for performing tasks of average difficulty involving the safe operation of large trucks on public streets and highways. Employees are also required to operate diverse, moderately complex motorized construction/maintenance equipment. Under immediate supervision, employees are required to exercise some initiative and independent judgment in completing assigned tasks. Tasks at times are performed under hazardous conditions and employees are expected to be particularly alert and careful whenever operating the assigned vehicle/equipment. Employees might be required to perform manual and unskilled laboring tasks, using hand and power tools, either separate from or in conjunction with the equipment being operated. Employees might also be required to operate specialty and/or more complex construction/maintenance equipment on a relief basis or in a training capacity and may serve in a lead capacity over lower level laboring personnel. Work is reviewed while in progress and upon completion by observation and through results obtained. Minimum Requirements: Graduation from an accredited high school, vocational school or G.E.D; equivalency diploma. Considerable paid experience in operating heavy trucks and Public Works construction/maintenance equipment; including some medium equipment operators training (ie., bobcat, trencher, graders, backhoe and front end loaders.) Possessions of a valid Florida Class 'B' Commercial Driver's License with good driving record. TRAINEES ONLY: One (1) year full time (or equivalent) paid experience in the operation of trucks and light or heavy motorized maintenance equipment ( ie., bobcat, trencher, graders and backhoe). Must obtain a Class 'B' Commercial Driver's License within six (6) months of hire. Preferred Qualifications: Two (2) experience in operating heavy trucks and Public Works construction/maintenance equipment; including some medium equipment operators training (i.e., bobcat, trencher, graders, backhoe and front end loaders.) Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the operation of construction equipment.
