Your Job Georgia-Pacific 's Containerboard division is currently seeking a talented Production Operators (Service Crew) to join our Big Island, Virginia team. These team members create value by safely operating machines to meet and exceed the plant's production and quality goals. Candidates who acquire the knowledge and skills to be successful in this position will have exciting opportunities for advancement. Our Team GP's Big Island, VA containerboard mill produces the paper used to make boxes. Half of the production is made from 100% recycle fiber and the other half uses about 25% recycle fiber. Production Operators work a 12 hour rotational shift schedule, and will work both days (6am to 6pm) and nights (6pm to 6am), with as little as 48 hours between days and night shift. Production Operators work holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed. This position's starting pay is $23.54/hour (with +$1.08 shift differential for nights) and includes paid time off, potential to earn quarterly bonuses, overtime, healthcare, 401k, and additional benefits! Significant Responsibilities: Performs specific job responsibilities: Review set up sheets and product codes to determine product to be manufactured, machine adjustments, setup and material requirements; monitor product runs closely by measuring and inspecting against quality standards. Set up and run product on ILA, large extruders (2 and 3 inch), strander, filler and rework lines as workload and staffing levels necessitate. Print to cables accurately using jet and mechanical printers. Fill, empty and monitor material dryers. Operate the rework line per production requirements for reworks and remakes; washing, reprinting, stripping jackets and armor, respooling cables and other rework tasks. Correctly completes all documentation specific to the job functions. Promotes OCC's service excellence and quality. Confidentiality - Standard level of confidentiality for product and order information Financial Responsibility - Efficient use of materials, limit remake and rework issues Judgment - Strive for error-free production to eliminate customer service and quality issues Compliance - Compliant with product procedures, safety, ISO, SOX and MIL standards Travel - little to none Minimum Qualifications Required: Education: High school diploma or GED Experience: 1 - 2 years (applying fundamental concepts and practice) preferred in machine operating (including set-up and troubleshooting) Other Minimum Qualifications: Effective interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills; must successfully complete orientation and competency validation for position Essential Skills, Abilities & Knowledge: Mechanical aptitude with the ability to review specifications, set up, run and monitor a machine in a production environment. Demonstrated ability to use tools and measuring devices properly. Ability to read and follow basic instructions. Ability to understand and implement quality procedures. Math and handwriting skills required and the ability to correctly complete all documentation. Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision. Pay close attention to detail with the ability to complete assignments accurately and recognize and help resolve problems. Ability to organize, complete tasks and manage time. Ability to operate a forklift. Ability to type and use a keyboard to operate in Syspro ERP System. Working Conditions: While performing the job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. This job requires sight sufficient for significant reading and computer use. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision. This work also requires an individual with hearing sufficient for detection of alarms and communication with coworkers. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
