PAs will work to provide 24/7 coverage to all high-acuity cardiac patients in the Cardiac Intensive Care unit. This includes but is not limited to, single ventricle patients, transplant patients, patients requiring mechanical circulatory support and ventricular assist devices, post-operative patients, acquired heart disease, and post-cardiac catheterization patients. In this team structure, CICU PAs provide direct patient management which includes participation in patient rounds, ordering/interpreting laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures, analyzing and prioritizing complex data, developing differential diagnoses, and implementing plans of care.
