Job Summary
The Mill Feed Operator I is responsible for maintaining safe and effective operations within the Mill and Feedhouse Departments. They will work with Laborers, Utilities, and Feed and Mill Operator II's to accomplish assigned tasks throughout their shift.
Essential Job Functions
• Monitor and make adjustments to process as needed utilizing the D/3 computer system
• Operate equipment within parameters to achieve desired results
• Start up and shut down as determined by plant rates

Performs a variety of tasks in the operation of a water treatment facility insuring quality control, efficient water treatment, and effective storage and distribution. Communicates with and directs the duties of the Water Treatment Operator I.
Operates all pumps, feeders, valves, instruments, controls, and other equipment used in the pumpage, treatment, storage, and distribution of water. Makes minor adjustments and repairs to all equipment and machinery in case of breakdown. Notifies supervisor as prescribed of all equipment breakdowns or needed repairs.
Performs all routine laboratory testing and analysis, including sample collection and special testing to insure maintenance of specified water quality parameters. Batches chemicals in accordance with operating requirements.
Collects data on specified plant rounds, reviewing data for accuracy and appropriateness. Responds to improper readings by making necessary pumping rate changes to maintain proper plant and distribution system rate changes necessary to maintain water quality parameters; or by back washing filters at regular intervals.
Responds to all emergency conditions in accordance with standard acceptable procedures.
Responsible to insure all assigned tasks during shift are completed to provide effective and reliable plantoperations. Acts as lead worker when subordinate staff is assigned to shift.
Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of plant facilities. Works on major maintenance projects as assigned.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Requires working knowledge of the chemical processes involved in the treatment and distribution of water; working knowledge of the mechanics of pumps and other electrical equipment and machinery; working knowledge of the occupational hazards connected with high voltage electrical systems and the necessary safety precautions; ability to inspect machinery and mechanical equipment in operation to detect flaws and defects in operation and to use tools necessary for adjustment and repair; ability to understand coagulation, sedimentation, lime softening, oxidation, disinfection, and filtration processes in relation to the treatment of water; ability to read and understand gauges, meters, and instrumentation systems and maintain related records; ability to learn plant electrical systems, power circuit changes, and circuit breaker resets; ability to understand plant hydraulics and operation of all valves and bypasses; ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors and the general public; extensive and demonstrative knowledge of the use and application of MS Office Suite and electronic mail systems.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Must have a high school diploma or a GED and two years experience in a public water supply facility or a related field. Course work in water treatment operation, chemistry, or environmental science may be considered in place of two years' work experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires maintenance of an active telephone number.
Requires possession of a valid Illinois driver's license.
Shall be required to obtain certification as a Class A Public Water Supply Operator in Training within one year from date of hire.
Shall be required to obtain, and continually maintain, certification as a Class A Public Water Supply Operator as soon as the individual has acquired requisite experience to apply for such certification.
Requires ability to work an assigned shift in a 24-hour a day, seven day a week operation, and to respond to emergency conditions.
Requires the physical ability to comply with OSHA/IDL Respiratory Protection Standard.
Requires being free from color blindness.
Requires no physical limitation on lifting or general physical activity.

Compensation
