Summary: The Assistant Press Operator assists the Press Operator and Lead Press operator in the basic setup and maintenance of the presses verifying proper paper sheet sizes and types. Operate the plant with a clear focus on safety. Clean up spills immediately. Reporting to the Lead Plant Operator, the successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring reliable plant performance, maintaining equipment integrity, and supporting safe, efficient power production. The primary objectives of this role are to maximize output, minimize downtime, and uphold the highest standards of safety, cleanliness, and environmental compliance. Duties and Responsibilities * Operate, monitor, and maintain steam boiler systems, turbines, and auxiliary equipment. * Conduct daily checks of operating equipment, including flow meters, gas chromatographs, fluid levels, pressure and temperature readings, and unusual noises to identify and correct issues before failure occurs. * Sample feedwater and boiler water regularly, analyze results, and maintain proper water chemistry to ensure safe and efficient boiler operation. * Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on mechanical systems, pumps, valves, and rotating machinery. * Install, align, and repair industrial equipment in accordance with millwright standards. * Troubleshoot mechanical and operational issues to minimize downtime. * Assist in planning and scheduling maintenance activities. * Maintain detailed records of production data, equipment operating hours, service schedules, inspections, and maintenance activities. * Follow all safety protocols and environmental regulations to ensure compliance. * Maintain a high level of cleanliness in and around the plant: prevent oil accumulation, keep equipment and floors presentable, and maintain the yard and perimeter fence. * Keep all on-site parts and supplies stocked, organized, and inventoried. * Operate the plant with a strong focus on safety: clean spills immediately, ensure lighting systems are functional, eliminate slip/trip hazards, and promptly address electrical or mechanical issues. Confirm that all visitors, mechanics, and contractors follow safe work practices. * Work with internal resources to resolve operational and mechanical problems. * Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and safety standards. * Communicate material and personnel issues clearly to area managers. * Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Skills * High school diploma/ GED equivalent * Unlimited Steam License or Minimum 3-5 years of experience in mechanical maintenance and plant operations, ideally in power generation. * Journeyman- level Industrial Mechanic or Millwright certification is preferred. * Proficiency in equipment alignment, rigging, and mechanical assembly. * Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals. * Ability to work independently and as part of a team. * Commitment to workplace safety and regulatory compliance. * Willingness to work shifts, weekends, or on-call as required. * Basic electrical knowledge is preferred. * Strong knowledge of steam boiler systems, pumps, compressors, and rotating equipment. * General troubleshooting abilities. * Skilled in recordkeeping and logging. * Computer skills (Microsoft Office). * Must be self-motivated and perform most tasks with little or no supervision. * Experience in welding helpful. Operate woodworking machines and use a variety of hand and power tools. Perform such duties as making and/or repairing counters, benches, partitions, doors, floors and building framework. General diagnosis and repair of all equipment of many different types and various purposes are used in the facility. The diagnosis and repair of all items are a responsibility of this position. Carpet and floor installation or repair. Multiple types of floor and wall coverings are utilized throughout the facility. Installation and/or repair of all areas are a responsibility of this position. Maintains preventative maintenance program for all equipment. Identify and record all preventative maintenance requirements and document all actions in accordance with department policy. Grounds keeping support including repair and maintenance of pumps, low voltage lighting, sprinkler controllers and various equipment as needed.
