Job DescriptionSalary: DOE Reporting to the Paving Manager, the Hot Plant Operator is responsible for operating the hot plant and supervising the assigned crew. Responsibilities include material production and testing, quality control, setup, maintenance, change-over, and tear down of the hot plant. Key Responsibilities The responsibilities of the Hot Plant Operator include, but are not limited to: Hot Plant Management & Operation Operate the companys portable hot plants at various job locations throughout central and western Montana Manage and schedule raw material deliveries, and oversee other employees assigned to hot plants Work closely with the Paving Manager to determine the most effective pit layout, ensure the hot plant operations and asphalt mix design are meeting the expected specifications, and meet the supply demands of the paving crew in a timely manner. Operate the loader and other heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner. Serve as the contact for the MDT asphalt tester who collects samples of asphalt mix for laboratory testing to measure compliance with volumetrics specifications Serve as the key contact for the MDT Plant Inspector for asphalt mix performance and supply Train new employees on the safe and efficient operation of the hot plant. Identify and implement process improvements. Perform all communication and management activities in a professional manner, particularly during stressful situations. Monitor and manage crew member performance, ensuring the timely arrival and participation of all crew members, and notify employees of weather delays, prior to the start of work. Safety & Compliance Ensure that Safety First is understood and demonstrated by the hot plant crew. Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure yourself, or endanger the wellbeing of others. Identify and address potential hazards or safety concerns to ensure worker safety and OSHA compliance. Enforce and comply with company safety and EEO policies, DEQ and OSHA regulations and serve as the key contact on site. Test materials, and adjust as needed, to ensure material specifications are being met. Ensure compliance with air quality and environmental permitting requirements relating to the hot plant and participate in DEQ stack tests. Understand pit boundaries and potential hazards associated with gravel mining. Attend DEQ and MSHA training as needed. Discuss, document and address all EEO complaints immediately. Repair & Maintenance Perform, prioritize and schedule routine cleaning and maintenance to ensure smooth operation of the hot plant. Work with Shop Foreman and Paving Manager to plan for equipment repairs and purchases, and order equipment as required. Administration Produce, review and submit daily production reports. Update work diary daily Daily review and approval of timecards. RESPONSIBILITIES: Operate the batch plant to produce ready mix concrete according to job specifications and company standards. Demonstrate understanding and knowledge of concrete mix designs to ensure accurate batching. Monitor plant controls, scales, and equipment to ensure proper batching and material consistency. Perform dispatching responsibilities such as order entry and direct communication with customers as needed. Effectively communicate with drivers to direct them to jobsites and ensure on-time deliveries. Coordinate with drivers, dispatch, and customers for timely delivery of concrete. POSITION DESCRIPTION HGL is currently seeking a part-time Water Treatment Plant Operator 1 to support work on the Belt Water Treatment Plant (WTP) site in Central Montana. This position is a team member of on-site project personnel to operate the Site's water treatment plant and to monitor plant operation and adjust process control variables to maintain efficient/optimum treatment rates. Systems within the treatment plant include a desktop computer (Human Machine Interface), variety of pumps, tank mixers, and clarifiers. The position requires personnel to operate and monitor a variety of pumping stations located across the Site to ensure proper water containment and compliance with the overall water management plan. Pumping equipment includes centrifugal pumps, electric motors, submersible pumps, well pumps, and numerous diesel-powered emergency backup generators. The Site is staffed 2 to 8 hours per day, 365 days per year with a minimum of one operator onsite. Weekend and holiday work is sometimes required. Occasional extended shifts are required due to planned and unplanned work conditions. Planned work conditions may include overseeing earthwork subcontractors, relocation of sludge piping, and completing critical repairs. Unplanned extended shifts may include plant outages and bad weather. The part-time Water Treatment Plant Operator 1 position requires working both indoors and outdoors, in all weather conditions. Occasional periods of heavy physical labor (shoveling, lifting, etc.) are required. The position will work 2-8 hour shifts with weekend coverage. Work hours will average 15-30 hours per week. The part-time Water Treatment Plan Operator 1 will be responsible for weekend coverage and will report to the Water Treatment Plan Operator lead. Responsibilities/Duties WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING The person hired for this role will be responsible for: Operating and monitoring a variety of water pumping stations and treatment plant facility with various treatment systems. Performing surface and groundwater sampling activities. Preserve samples according to established project SOP guidelines. Perform water quality analysis using both bench top instruments as well as field instruments. Operation and maintenance of all capture systems, water conveyance lines, and electrical lines onsite. Maintain weekly pumpback checks - recording flow and discharge data. SUMMARY The Nordic Snowcat Operator is responsible for grooming and maintaining Nordic trails to the highest quality standard, creating a smooth, consistent, and safe experience for skiers. This role involves operating and maintaining the snowcat and other trail maintenance equipment, performing snow and trail repairs, and collaborating with the Activities Department to ensure trails are well-prepared, scenic, and safe throughout the season. The ideal candidate is a skilled equipment operator who takes pride in their work, communicates clearly with teammates, and contributes to a culture of respect and positivity. They understand the nuances of snow conditions, enjoy working outdoors in all weather, and value being part of a team that brings outdoor recreation to life for guests. Reliability, attention to detail, and adaptability are key. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Groom Nordic ski trails using snowcats, snowmobiles, and other equipment with precision and care. Maintain all equipment, including snowcats, snowmobiles, trail grooming tools, and snowmaking gear. Operate grooming implements (blades, tillers, track setters, etc.) to create a consistent trail surface. Cut and fill terrain irregularities including ruts, holes, and other hazards to ensure skier safety. Maintain and clear trails using chainsaws and other trail maintenance equipment. Communicate trail conditions and grooming reports with the Activities Supervisor and Activities team daily. Monitor machine service hours and coordinate maintenance or repairs with the Engineering Manager. Keep all vehicles clean, fueled, and in good operating condition; perform minor repairs and inspections. Complete grooming logs, reports, and timecards accurately and on time. Practice safe operating procedures at all times and follow company SOPs and safety standards. Be adaptable to changing schedules and start times based on guest needs, weather, and snow conditions. Must be comfortable working overnight in dark, cold conditions-most grooming shifts occur at night. Treat all guests and team members encountered on the trails with kindness, courtesy, and respect, promoting a safe and welcoming environment for all. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum of 3 years of experience operating snowcats or heavy equipment. Solid understanding of snow composition and snow grooming techniques. Intermediate to advanced mechanical knowledge of grooming equipment and machinery. Strong snowmobile handling skills in a variety of snow conditions. Working knowledge of Nordic skiing, including both classic and skate disciplines. Ability to operate chainsaws and perform trail maintenance duties safely. Valid U.S. driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Reliable transportation to and from work. Positive attitude and willingness to collaborate and communicate effectively with teammates and leadership. WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Work is performed primarily outdoors in winter weather, including snow, wind, and temperatures down to -30°F. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs frequently and occasionally up to 75 lbs (e.g., grooming equipment, trail supplies). Requires regular bending, kneeling, climbing, and working on uneven, icy, or snowy terrain. Work schedule may include early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on operational needs. Must be comfortable working alone at night and in low-visibility conditions with minimal supervision. Reporting to the Paving Manager, the Hot Plant Operator is responsible for operating the hot plant and supervising the assigned crew. Responsibilities include material production and testing, quality control, setup, maintenance, change-over, and tear down of the hot plant. Key Responsibilities The responsibilities of the Hot Plant Operator include, but are not limited to: Hot Plant Management & Operation • Operate the company's portable hot plants at various job locations throughout central and western Montana • Manage and schedule raw material deliveries, and oversee other employees assigned to hot plants • Work closely with the Paving Manager to determine the most effective pit layout, ensure the hot plant operations and asphalt mix design are meeting the expected specifications, and meet the supply demands of the paving crew in a timely manner. • Operate the loader and other heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner. • Serve as the contact for the MDT asphalt tester who collects samples of asphalt mix for laboratory testing to measure compliance with volumetrics specifications • Serve as the key contact for the MDT Plant Inspector for asphalt mix performance and supply • Train new employees on the safe and efficient operation of the hot plant. • Identify and implement process improvements. • Perform all communication and management activities in a professional manner, particularly during stressful situations. • Monitor and manage crew member performance, ensuring the timely arrival and participation of all crew members, and notify employees of weather delays, prior to the start of work. Safety & Compliance • Ensure that “Safety First” is understood and demonstrated by the hot plant crew. • Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure yourself, or endanger the wellbeing of others. • Identify and address potential hazards or safety concerns to ensure worker safety and OSHA compliance. • Enforce and comply with company safety and EEO policies, DEQ and OSHA regulations and serve as the key contact on site. • Test materials, and adjust as needed, to ensure material specifications are being met. • Ensure compliance with air quality and environmental permitting requirements relating to the hot plant and participate in DEQ stack tests. • Understand pit boundaries and potential hazards associated with gravel mining. • Attend DEQ and MSHA training as needed. • Discuss, document and address all EEO complaints immediately. Repair & Maintenance • Perform, prioritize and schedule routine cleaning and maintenance to ensure smooth operation of the hot plant. • Work with Shop Foreman and Paving Manager to plan for equipment repairs and purchases, and order equipment as required.
