Presentation Medical Center company history timeline

1943

The College opened in Houston July 12, 1943, in a converted Sears, Roebuck & Co. building, with 131 students.

In 1943, the MD Anderson Foundation invited Baylor University College of Medicine to join the newly formed Texas Medical Center.

1948

In 1948, Michael E. DeBakey, M.D., joined the faculty as chair of the Department of Surgery, and the following year, The Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences was established.

1964

The Presentation Sisters then built a 38 bed skilled and intermediate nursing facility which opened May 25, 1964.

1969

In 1969, by mutual agreement, the College separated from Baylor University to become an independent institution.

1980

In 1980, the Sisters joined with Catholic Health Corporation of Omaha.

1993

In June of 1993, Foster County Medical Center was merged with Carrington Health Center and the Long Term Care unit.

1996

In 1996, in order to preserve their health care facility, the Presentation Sisters then helped form Catholic Health Initiatives, a nonprofit, faith-based health system through the consolidation of four Catholic health systems.

2000

In March 2000, it was restructured into an adult basic care facility called Holy Family Villa with 24 single unit apartments.

2015

On May 1, 2015, the Roy and Lillie Cullen Building was dedicated as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark.
