Amazon is looking for an energetic, detail-oriented individual to join our Data Center Engineering Operations Team. This committed group works to maintain the critical physical infrastructure that supports Amazon Web Services. Specifically, this team works to ensure that the data center's MEP operates at 100% availability while maintaining first-class customer service to the teams and groups within the data centers.
The Data Center Chief Engineer (CE) is responsible for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center is operating at peak efficiency. This involves both planned preventative maintenance of equipment, daily corrective work, and emergency response to emergent issues. The CE serves as an expert technical resource reporting to a site's Data Center Facility Manager and interacting with onsite Engineering Operations Technicians (EOT) and any third party vendors. They are expected to be a singular focal point for all facility operations within a given data center and to support Amazon within its owned and operated data centers. Data center equipment that supports mission-critical servers must maintain better than 99.999% uptime.
Also expected from the CE is the ability to management small-to-medium impacting projects from conception to completion. These projects involve large amounts of independent work as well as collaboration with external support groups including engineering, automation, processing, and finance in both local and global settings. The CE will be tasked with creating and delivering on key milestones, obtaining and tracking quotes for all necessary costs, and documenting project results for future implementation at other facilities. The goals of such projects are for the CE to drive innovation and resiliency while reducing operational costs in the facilities.
The CE directs, trains and supports EOT's in their role of providing hands-on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting and operations. Implementation and execution of site/equipment-specific training exercises is also expected. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, stand-by diesel generators, switchgear, UPS's, PDU's, AHU's, chillers, cooling towers, chemical treatment systems, pumps, motors, VFD's, and building automation systems.

A day in the life
Typical day, review and prioritize preventative maintenance schedules for electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety systems. Conduct facility walkthroughs to identify potential issues before they impact operations. Respond to emergency alarms and coordinate immediate corrective actions with EOTs. Meet with vendor representatives to oversee ongoing maintenance work and ensure compliance with safety protocols. Monitor system performance metrics to maintain 99.999% uptime standards. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to on-site EOTs throughout the shift. Document all activities and update maintenance logs to support continuous facility operations.

Key Responsibilities
Support pre-design and design-phase electrical evaluations
Review and provide recommendations on drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, and change orders
Perform technical assessments and validate contractor work quality
Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA, IBC, VA design standards, and federal requirements
Support procurement, construction-phase oversight, and closeout activities
Conduct occasional onsite field visits for inspections and verification
Provide electrical expertise for power distribution, lighting, emergency power, HVAC controls, telecom, and low-voltage systems
Maintain construction documentation, project tracking, and reporting
Qualifications
U.S. Citizenship (required)
Ability to pass a federal background check and obtain a VA PIV badge
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (required)
Professional Engineer (PE) license (required)
Minimum 6 years of combined electrical design and construction experience
Experience with healthcare, VA facilities, or federal environments preferred
Strong knowledge of building codes, life safety systems, and construction best practices
Skilled in reviewing scopes of work, cost evaluations, and contractor compliance
Proficient in construction management software and general office applications

John Moriarty & Associates of Virginia (JMAV) is seeking a full-time Project Engineer (PE) to support construction project execution from preconstruction through closeout in the Washington, DC metro area. The PE will assist with scheduling, procurement, subcontractor coordination, document management, and project logistics.
The PE should be located within daily driving distance of the Washington, DC metro area and can expect to travel between different jobsites as needed.
Roles & Responsibilities:
The Project Engineer will work closely with the PM and site team on a wide range of tasks, including:
Management of assigned trades in all facets of preconstruction to include quantity take-offs, preparation of bid packages, and buy-out
Oversee performance of assigned trades, including project status, schedule, cost control, change management systems, and maintain relationships with clients, designers, and consultants
Supporting the creation and maintenance of project schedules
Assisting with submittals, RFIs, and change order processing
Coordinating project documentation and digital records
Communicating with subcontractors and vendors
Education:
4-year degree in Construction Management or related field required
Work Experience:
3-5 years of experience required, in commercial construction is preferred

Highly organized with attention to detail
Effective communicator and team collaborator
Strong multitasking and decision-making skills
Ability to travel daily across DC-Metro area jobsites
