About This Position:
We are seeking a qualified Project Engineer with 8-15 years' experience to become a part of our growing Highway Design Group for our Albany, Syracuse, and White Plains offices. Our highway engineers work on a variety of projects and interact with traffic engineers, structure engineers and our construction inspection staff.

The Role
As a Machining & Manufacturing Engineer at iRocket, you will own the development, optimization, and scaling of high-precision manufacturing processes for rocket hardware. You will work cross-functionally with design, test, supply chain, and quality teams to mature processes from prototype through production. You will report to the Senior Manager of Manufacturing Engineering.
Develop, validate, and refine machining processes (CNC turning, milling, EDM, grinding, etc.) for rocket components
Collaborate with design engineers to ensure manufacturability, offer design for manufacturing (DFM) feedback, and propose design changes where beneficial
Create and maintain manufacturing BOMs, process flows, work instructions, and SOPs
Support installation, calibration, qualification, and commissioning of new machines and tooling
Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for production issues and drive corrective and preventive actions
Implement process controls, error-proofing, statistical monitoring, and quality gates
Participate in manufacturability reviews and design reviews to provide input from a manufacturing perspective
Document and drive continuous improvement in process maturity, standardization, and scaling
Support aerospace / defense compliance efforts (e.g. AS9100, aerospace quality standards)
Occasionally support mission-critical deadlines which may require non-standard hours

This role serves as a critical link between engineering, operations, and customers, ensuring manufacturing processes are efficient, cost-effective, and aligned with quality standards. The ideal candidate will be proactive in driving continuous improvement, maintaining documentation, and fostering strong cross-functional relationships. The position requires a strong focus on Design for Manufacturability (DFM), acting as a key liaison between customers and internal teams to ensure product designs are optimized for production capabilities and cost efficiency.
Responsibilities
+ Collaborate with customers during design and development phases to review part designs and provide DFM feedback that enhances manufacturability, reduces cost, and improves production efficiency.
+ Lead DFM review sessions with customers and internal stakeholders to identify and address potential design or process issues early in the development cycle.
+ Act as the primary liaison between customers and internal departments (Engineering, Quality, Operations, CNC Applications), ensuring clear communication and timely resolution of technical issues.
+ Coordinate internal engineering activities to align with customer requirements, project timelines, and production readiness.
+ Manage Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) through VMFG and ensure timely updates to control plans, digital attachments, and related documentation.
+ Communicate with customers regarding prints, specifications, and process clarifications to ensure alignment and manufacturability.
+ Oversee project and part timelines, track current work status, estimate completion dates, and provide regular updates to senior management on project status, risks, and performance metrics.
+ Partner with the Quality Department to address nonconforming products and update control plans as needed.
+ Research and recommend new manufacturing technologies and process improvements to enhance productivity, product quality, and operational efficiency.
+ Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing cycle time, setup time, and production costs, while improving work holding and lead times for first article inspections.
+ Ensure smooth handoff between Engineering and Operations, confirming parts are production-ready and running correctly.
+ Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment, and lead by example in adhering to all company policies and procedures.

The work environment consists of 130 total employees in Elmwood Park, including 3 manufacturing engineers and 5 CNC Applications Engineers. Employees work cross-functionally with engineering and production, and are involved with customer interactions and seeing projects from quote through execution to shipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (additional duties may be assigned):
Familiar with work orders, shop drawings, pick tickets, routings, schedules, material labels, part drawings and inspection data records.

Minimum Requirements:
Associate's Degree in Engineering or Bachelor of Engineering degree

1+ years' experience as a Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineer or similar position
Must have basic knowledge of AutoCAD
Able to read fabrication drawings and knowledgeable in basic measurement methods
